Swindon (closed 1844)......that is the small settlement that lies between Cleeve and Cheltenham Spa....not the famous railway town.

I'm apprehensive, wondering about some long-ago Cheltenham station (not the present-day Cheltenham Spa), unknown to me, but on our route. Crossing fingers for there not having been any such: I'll try Badgworth (closed way, way back)

There was the closed station of Cheltenham High Street which came after Swindon (perhaps the one in the area you mention) from which Badgeworth (closed 1846) would have then followed.

After Badgeworth, there is one more closed station before we take the junction onto the Midland Railway Tuffley loop line, which is Churchdown
