Llansamlet (1st station)

I think we also missed two closed stations at Pyle, about 300m (1st station) and 600m (2nd station) from the current one.

PS - and another at Stormy, between Bridgend and Pyle.

I did wonder about Pyle, but I didn't know where the original station was in relation to the current one.

It is all dependant on whether or not those stations do in fact meet the stipulation requirements appertaining to the rules of this quiz, though a query has arisen in that whilst a feature of this line was called Stormy Bank, I cannot trace a station there.

This extract above from my posting made in in 2016 was, after with discussion with third parties in 2016, what those comments to me said at that time.
In the area of the Margam Knuckle Yard, a line section of Stormy Bank does indeed occur. Further checks still have not sourced a station that handled passenger trains there and Margam Halt still appears to be the only such station in that vicinity.

Therefore, until factual evidence such as the name of the railway who opened this station, together with official opening and closing dates as a passenger carrying station is produced, Stormy as a station is not allowed as a valid station on this quiz.

The OS 1:2500 maps for 1879 and 1899 show "Stormy Station" explicitly. The location is a lime works between Bridgend and Pyle, associated with a couple of sidings and a loop on the down side. The flooded quarry is still visible on Google Earth, about 700m west of the M4 bridge over the South Wales main line. My guess is that it was a works halt (there aren't any platforms shown on the map). I guess we need to find it in a timetable next!

Remember that the closed station of Pyle on the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway was not on the same line elevation as the South Wales Railway

Pyle seems to have had four stations viz:

1. Pyle (South Wales Railway) 1848 to 1876
2.Pyle (Llynfi and Ogmore Railway) 1865 to 1876
3. Pyle Junction (GWR) 1876 to 1964 (replacing (1) and incorporating (2))
4. Pyle (BR) 1994 to date

So I think in a traverse of the South Wales Main Line 1) and 3) should be allowable, the locations being exactly known and sufficiently far from the current station (4).

I totally agree with what you say about finding that station in an officially published timetable to prove that it was a passenger station and not a goods station. The fact that you say that your map shows no platforms speaks volumes.

I have updated Rule 14 accordingly to cover cases such as this.

Pyle (1st station) was a matter also discussed in 2016 and there has since been a posting naming that station made on posting # 45661 on 13th February 2017.

Boncath. That one was a bit easier to spell. This was a very steep line.
