Yesterday, June 11, we got off the Airport Flyer bus at Bristol Temple Meads to go to Stapleton Road. I was surprised to see the 20.46 departure (origin Weston-super-Mare) displayed as going to Clifton Down. Is this a new thing? A quick Google on my phone showed that there was a points failure beyond Clifton Down in late May, expected to be fixed later that day.

The service in question is 2K64, it's a planned terminator at Clifton Down and runs around the station to form the 21:34 departure (2K61) back to Bristol TM. It's been pathed like this for some time - at least from 2023. The Severnside bin train 6A03 running via the Severn Beach line around the same time might be the reason for this termination.

Also, tbh, not likely to be a massive demand for beyond Clifton Down at that time.

It’s been running for a while, after terminating it waits for the bin train to go through before going into the tunnel to reverse and come back into the up platform. This time of year you can just about photograph the bin train in daylight as it passes through this area, only a small window of opportunity!

(Photo shows a DB red 66 passing through Clifton Down on the stinkliner service, with the 2K64 terminating passenger service in the other platform. Picture slightly blurred due to exposure time, it was still a bit too dark last Friday!)
