This has been mentioned on the Skyscrapercity forum, due to an article in the Manchester Evening News.
Personally, I think it's a nice idea, but as there is no southern spur to Cadishead from the Irlam direction (not to mention proposed Heritage trains running on a busy commuter line), I can't see it happening.
Although it may be possible from Cadishead towards (West Timperley) Altrincham...
