What is the real meaning of "delay in awarding the additional licences" in what this statement says ?

I would guess that the Oakwood O licence has a requirement for so many vehicles, and so they don't have enough discs to operate both the 22 and the red rocket, and schools services. Basically, the TC hasn't authorised in time an increase in the number of discs.
You do have to wonder why they haven't noticed this issue before now though.

And yet the timetable page still says from Easter 2014. Not impressive.
I wonder whether it might be because the enquiry didn't go in their favour, and they're appealing?

The vehicle used by Burnley FC for their promotion parade was in Classic Bus North West branding.
Does any one know if the Red Rocket service restarted yesterday? Their website still says 24th May, but I've been unable to find if it started. The VOSA search still shows the Red Rocket license as in progress.

To answer my own question, the Red Rocket website has been updated today, saying the service "will be taking off again soon", with the note "Online booking will commence very soon for the RED ROCKET. The delay in restarting operations is due to the delay in awarding our operation the additional licences we require to operate the Red Rocket service."

The whole thing is still wrapped up in the dispute/hearings with the traffic commissioner. Part of the proceedings involve the application for the licence to run the Red Rocket service. The chances of the service running anytime soon are slim.

In other news Oakwood Travel are to start a new local service in Blackpool on the 3rd November. Route 6 from Blackpool Clifton Street to Grange Park Dinmore Hotel running every 15mins, the buses for this are to come from route 12 which ends for the season on the previous day.

The Red Rocket is to return over the Crimbo period running every Weekend from November 22nd to December 28th. It will only be a Single trip each way departing Blackpool at 10:30 and Manchester at 4:30. Also worth noting that this will not call at The Trafford Centre.

Considering that this thread was first set up some fourteen months ago in September 2013, the matter of this supposedly good link between Blackpool and Manchester has not exactly been the unqualified success that its original publicity said it would be, but certain matters of the company have indeed been brought into question.

Glad I'm sat down, I can't believe the Red Rocket Express is returning, not sure what buses will be used on this service, most of the fleet I've travelled on in Blackpool are B10Ms, alongside some ex London area Double Deckers, plus an old Blackpool Transport Atlantean in Green/Cream.

Haven't they also acquired a small Warrington-based operator, specifically for access to their licence and 'O' discs?

Third time lucky for the Red Rocket Express? Is Mr Higgs really sure about this?
Changes this time seem to be that the a) the Trafford Centre has been dropped entirely and b) the service is now Blackpool - Preston Bus Station - Manchester with some short journeys Preston - Manchester.
Prospects can't be that good given that Stagecoach couldn't make the age old X61 work anymore!

I'm all for innovation but this firm has taken some bizarre and costly decisions. People still haven't forgotten when they registered a Fylde Villager bus service semi-commercially and cancelled it after two weeks, leaving people stranded, ruining LCC's Christmas and leaving the taxpayers of Lancashire to pick up the pieces.
However, we shall see with the new Red Rocket. At least there isn't anything else at stake except their profits! They should bring back the Citaro bendy-buses on the Red Rocket, they were great if a little unconventional.

I've no idea what happened to the Citaro bendy buses, not seen them since the Red Rocket Express was curtailed.

A Dart has been repainted in red for the Red Rocket, no Citaros. I imagine the B10M will be used too. Only deckers now are open toppers or the preserved fleet.
ex-Cardiff Bus Dart vs NX Levante. Hmmmmm, good job the fares are cheaper!
