yeah, in this political climate, with these people running the country and indeed managing NR...
Good Luck!

Electrification, like everything else, costs lots of money, we may get a different political climate and different people running the country but will we be able to actually afford electrification without taking on massive debts that we, as tax payers, will have to pay for? Any old politician can make expansive promises, can they manage the consequences though?

That's the thing. in the last few years, aside from allocating more money to stuff over budget, most rail related funding changes have been cuts (either financial, or the standard of the finished project) which makes me extremely skeptical that the politicians will want to do anything (what with that short term goal of brexit dominating the new cycle this election season)
The fact most stuff on here is of stuff in the 3xx and 4xx range, and virtually nothing 15x and above going, despite considerably higher age shows this stock/network imbalence, but addressing this? it's much easier to 'consider' something, or promise compensation if the train is a pacer....

No! Get hydrogen trains like the iLint and go green without the cost and unreliabilty of OHLE. 500 mile range, 87mph, no carbon.
And how much does it cost (both in cash terms and environmental damage terms) to generate that hydrogen?

Electrification is the answer.
