I find that I can never get a mobie signal on 220's etc once they are moving. The faster they go, the weaker the signal. It's the only type of train I have problems with - do the same route in another class and signal is perfect!

It came out ages ago that it was the film they have coated the windows with which has caused the poor mobile and GPS signals inside the coaches. Didnt Virgin even admit this at one point?

Nope, not the case.
Doppler effect may or may not be the reason you pick a signal up better whilst at a stand, but the fact other passenger stock doesnt have the anti glare film covering the windows, means mobile signals are still ok.
It may be reduced when underway, but signal will be infinitely better than on a voyager due to no window covering.

I don't think it's a Doppler effect as such; more likely a triangulation difficulty with doing an initial signal establishment while on the move. I have quite often found that regaining the signal ( on any train at any speed ) is always much quicker than the initial establishment. Even after spending 21 minutes out of signal in the Chunnel...

Indeed, tried to get a speed on my phone of HS1 and turning it on going at 140mph it wouldn't play ball at all, got 1 satellite most.

On the way back turned it on when standing in the platform and it got to about 5 satellites, when we pulled away it increased and had full satellites and speed/location shown when the train was about 30mph, and was perfect all the way up to 139mph max shown. After going through a tunnel for ages, came back out and it regained it almost instantly :)
