Hi folks,

While awaiting the Humber Bosun at Peterborough yesterday, I was rather surprised to see a 91 hauling 1S11 Kings Cross to Aberdeen.

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G35395/2014/07/13/advanced

The train did continue to the north apparently, but with a 30 minute delay. Were passengers transferred onto an HST or was the 91 dragged?

Is this a normal procedure or something of a one-off?

Many thanks.

Definitely not something that's seen regularly. I can't think why that would happen unless they were desperately short of IC125 sets for some reason.

More than likely carried on forward using a XC HST Set

EC64 had power car issues on 1E25 on Saturday, so was set swapped at Edinburgh for a MK4 foward. The MK4 then worked 1S11 on Sunday as far as Edinburgh, passengers then transferred to the (now available) EC HST set forward.

This actually happened to me about 12 or 13 years ago. I caught what was then the 1400 service to Aberdeen from Kings Cross. I saw that it was an 82 at the south end, so assumed that a 91 was pulling. I do remember we left late, but by how much - I can't remember. We had to change trains from the 82+91 onto a 125 at Doncaster - I THINK we were scheduled to stop there, but I simply can't recall. A short-term closure of the ECML was the root cause of the problem.

The 12:00 KGX - INV had a planned change a year or so back. It was East Coast's website as well. I assume the same set did 07:55 INV as far as Edinburgh and then returned to Inverness the same day. Electric train between Edinburgh and London in both directions.

How far in advance was it planned? The only reason that immediately pops to mind for doing that was that the set had some fault/limitation that stopped it being able to do 125mph, hence it would've been a liability if 'let loose' on the southern ECML. Run down to Craigentinny, fix the fault during the day and then back up to Inverness in the evening.

It was an Informed Traveller change on this occasion as I recall.
