As the WCML is closed at Carstairs in April, the Crewe to Coatbridge liners are going via non-electrified routes.

Will this mean an increase in FL90 workings south of Crewe?

Possibly, although it's more likely to see more 66 workings under the wires than anything else.

They could use the sleeper tactics and go the ECML, then via Shotts to Mossend and Coatbridge.

The blockade starts from tomorrow 4th March in 3 phases till June.

With the WCML closed for the last few weeks freight has been going via the ECML at weekends in any case. It would need to be weekdays too for the next 3 months though.
The link I've posted is for a Wednesday

Do the power restrictions on the north ECML allow additional electrically hauled freight paths? TPE have to run their 802s in diesel mode.
I don't know, apologies. I would guess that either the short term management is considered viable, or that arrangements are being made with Bi-Mode operators to reduce the load where needed.

Yes upgrade work over the Northern ECML is still ongoing. Even Azumas are known to change over at times if they have the facility.

The various Freightliner services between Coatbridge and Felixstowe/London Gateway are doing
exactly that for the next six weeks - all diesel hauled though...

Thanks for your help Freightmaster, so that’s 4L82 / 4S88 knocked off the list of 90 services south of Crewe - might we see an increase in 90s going to Trafford Park?

The DRS Solution has been to use an 88 and 68 combination. Howrver they go via Sheffidld and Doncaster.

Unlikely to, given Southampton, Felixstowe and London Gateway all require diesel haulage.

Always possible, of course. Although 4L41 (for example) will still need a diesel from Ipswich Yard.
Yeah they all do I suppose.

What I’d like to see is the workings sometimes 90-worked being made always 90-worked, due to the number of electrics spare with the diversion of Crewe-Coatbridge trains.

It's not just as simple as the locos being free though. It might be possible for more 90s, but it might not.
