This thread is for discussion of class 90 repaints, overhauls and possible redeployment of locomotives in the fleet.

Here is a status list of the fleet.

I haven't seen confirmation anywhere on those 2. It is possible they might still be surviving at EMR Liverpool.

Without going into the history of it, for particular given time frames both are correct for the respective liveries.

It’s been reported elsewhere that a recent visit to EMR Liverpool revealed no trace of 90025/031 so reasonable to assume they have been cut.

Correct - initially to stop the Intercity sector from nicking them to cover for failures.
And then back again after privatisation (pre-unit days) so they can be hired out to the passenger TOC' s to cover for failures......

WNXX disposals ( https://www.wnxx.com/disposals/class90.htm ) only shows three of the Sandbach ones as scrapped (90022, 90027 and 90038). However, it does acknowledge that the list was last updated in August 2024. Have the other four (90023, 90030, 90032 and 90033) definitely been cut up?

Still paired up, both 90018 and 90040 worked north last night (Thu 20/3/2025) on 4S59 2057 Basford Hall Yard (Fl) to Coatbridge F.L.T.

Does anyone know if the rumours that the class 90s for Freightliner are being pulled from working south of Crewe from tomorrow are accurate? There are currently no STP (short-term plan) workings out of Ipswich for the whole week, which is what 90s have operated as for the last 18 months. That appears to be a bad sign.

Interesting that it’s two of the branded locos as well; 021 carries Malcolm Rail branding, 039 carries the somewhat ironic “DB Cargo, Backbone of the UK Economy” livery.
