Hi all,

I have a distinct memory of seeing an EWS-liveried Class 90 coming off the Gospel Oak to Barking line in around 2018, hauling what seemed to be HAA (or something like them) coal wagons. This would have been just after the electrification of the line. Obviously class 90s were used on the 6L35/6X77 car train for a bit after electrification, but it certainly wasn’t this train. I guess it was possibly testing the new wires? Does anyone have any info about this working?

Many thanks in advance.

The HAA wagons were long gone by 2018. The Cornish china clay wagons are similar, albeit with covers, but wouldn’t go to North London.

Got me stumped.

I have a Brian Morrison photo from around 1990 taken when Ripple Lane were learning electric locos. It shows an InterCity liveried class 90 hauling HEAs or similar and was taken at Leigh-On-Sea on a training run to Shoeburyness.

It doesn’t help with this query but might hopefully offer some other ideas of how a similar consist came to be running.

Thanks for the info! Ripple Lane doesn’t see too many electrics anymore which is a shame but it’s good to know they worked on the LTS!
