Class 87's...

Hi all...

I'm doing some research on Class 87's & was wondering if anyone could answer the following questions for me please???

1. What are the colours of the "line", "fault" & "train heat" indicator lights on the driver's desk???

2. What is the reason for the "neutral" position on the parking brake switch??? From what I have researched, it is a 3 way switch (OFF-NEUTRAL-ON) and when in the "neutral" position gives a "stripey" indication on the indicator flag above the switch on the parking brake panel...

Hoping someone can answer my questions...???

1. I always thought the lights were white, certainly the line light is white

2. 87s have an electric-hydraulic parking brake instead of a traditional handbrake wheel. If the system fails there is a hand lever to manually pump the brakes, presumably the "neutral" position is for use in the event that the electric/hydraulic system fails, allowing the use of the manual pump lever?

The line, fault and train heat lights are incandescent 15w bulbs. They all have glass diffusers. The line light and train heat lights are white, and the fault light is red.

The parking brake switch is sprung to the centre. You need to hold it in either ‘on’ or ‘off’ and wait for the hatched display to change to the desired setting before letting go of it. The parking brake switch and display are only functional when the master switch is in forward or reverse. If in neutral it just shows hatched and there is a physical on/off indicator on the parking brake unit in the equipment area. I’ve never understood that feature as on class 90s and Mk3 DVTs you can operate it with the cab shut down.

Does the train heat light have a "H" on it when illuminated like the line light has an "L"???

Yes the heat light should have a H on it.
