After some quick research It is also important to note that this is the first instance where a official class 86 (not an 86/1) has been cleared for 110 MPH running which allows it to compete with class 90's and class 87's. Also it should have the advantage of a class 90 due to better adhesion hope that helps anyone interested out there.

That's not quite true. A number of 86/2s were passed for 110mph to suppliment the 87s before the 90s arrived. 86209, 86211, 86224, 86225, 86231, 86238 plus a couple of others have all been passed for 110mph in the past.

Ah right I had a feeling something like that may have cropped up but looked over various sites etc and nothing was mentioned but cheers.

Mmmm remember 86209 turning up on 87 diagrams including the Royal Scot...bowled me a few times. Still didnt mind then so much great AC locos but didnt quite have the screamage of the 87s

I may well be wrong, but i think the criteria was having a Brecknell-Willis pantograph fitted in place of the Stone-Faiveley/GEC cross arm types?

That's one of several.

I read this news with much interest yesterday. Certainly sounds like there is some possibility that these two could be used on scheduled passenger services again. But whether any operator will want to use them is another matter. Still you never know, that Class 86 being used on Kings Cross-Doncaster last year was certainly a surprise. So fingers crossed......

If you were passing Brook Sidings at LNWR yesterday you would have been able to get a good photo of both locos with their pans up. Not much work left now, they should make an appearance in the next couple of weeks or so.
