Issue with 015 then?
During the building of these units multiple things have gone wrong.
Including screws and nails been put through wiring looms. Wiring looms too long for where they are fitted then causing thermal events, Glue coming loosing holding parts down, etc etc

It will all depend on how much rectification work each unit has needed doing.
015 may need more work than 016.

Unit 017 has not been seen as a complete unit outside where as 018 has etc.

Exactly, I'm not sure why people seem to think they must be delivered in numerical order, it's just whatever unit is ready first! :D

The are being delivered in numerical order - just numerical order in which they were accepted!

BR southern region especially had reputation for numbering in order of successful completion / refurbishment rather than nominal start number or number on entering the works for refurbishment

Will shortly be travelling on 810006 on the 1535 from London.

Due to the severe service disruption on the Midland Mainline, this service is calling additionally at Luton, Bedford and Wellingborough.

It was mentioned above that an 810 has never called at EMR Connect stations in passenger service. Is this still the case, or did it happen in previous service disruption? If it is, would this be the first occurrence of a train calling at these stations (especially Luton)

Well, at least as far as hauling passengers go, the 810s have not called at and EMR connect stations (to my knowledge), however the driver training services do call at some connect stations (Take 3A28 calling at Luton and Bedford for example)

Well, depends on whether EMR increase the amount of 810s they have in service at onetime or not. As it stands, the services would be 1B07, 1B88 and 1B94. You can get 1B88 and. 1B94 to Beeston, East Mids Parkway Loughborough, Leicester, Market Harborough and Kettering, but 1B07 only calls at Leicester, Market Harborough and Kettering.

GIven these are not the first trains to have been constructed by Hitachi at Newton Aycliffe it makes we wonder why this could of happened.

Different part of business designed units compared to previous builds. The kept changing things when no need.
Still used some parts from previous builds which do not fit correctly in new units (eg using wiring looms from previous builds in these that are too long).

Also, the 810s aren’t as similar to the other IETs released from Newton Aycliffe, shorter carriage lengths, bigger diesel engines just to name a few, so I’m sure that it means that not a lot of parts are comparable between the classes (unlike may have been with the case with the Azumas for example)

So utter incompetence on the part of Hitachi, then. The ghost of AnsaldoBreda very much alive, it seems.

Also worth checking the diagrams thread for the 810s on the diagrams forum. There should be three daily diagrams by then so possibly a couple more options. Edit: Just had a look at diagram 3. It includes an arrival into Nottingham at 1507 and a departure at 1550.

The third diagram hasn't started yet so is still a Meridian

You can imagine the recriminations between Newton Aycliffe, Pistoia and senior management might be quite heated.
At least it keeps them in work at Aycliffe until HS2 stock and Lumo/Gc build starts.

Baring in mind all 810s should of been long gone from factory by now, it does make me wonder what the would of done with all
The staff.

I suppose, maybe that was one good thing out of COVID as it was that what played a large factor in the delay of the 810s.

Also, seems like there was an issue in Etches this morning as the 810 for 1C17 couldn’t make it out on 5C17 (Canned for MU - Depot operating problems) with 1C17 starting short at Derby. This means as it stands, only 1 810 in passenger service today.

I think the answer to that is pretty obvious. Send them all off to the job centre. We've seen Hitachi change its production location commitments before. Most significantly with the 805/807 build, where it was stated that 56 body shells will be fully welded at Newton Aycilffe and in the end none were, with the 810s claimed to be the first. Prior to the Lumo and GC order I was highly pondering whether Hitachi would move their end of the HS2 train production between Pistoia and more work being done by Alstom in Derby. Given that Hitachi now own Pistoia and Brexit would seem to suggest that Newton Aycliffe is no longer the European base Hitachi originally intended it to be.

56 body shells will be fully welded together in the North East, marking an exciting new chapter for Hitachi’s factory, where £8.5million is being invested to allow the full build of trains to take place in the UK.

There's clearly something majorly wrong when the first two diagrams are not reliably served by the 810's. Unless things radically improve, the MML service is going to go downhill.

I sm hoping that they are experiencing teething troubles but as each day goes by I'm not filled with confidence.

Perhaps they thought the wiring loom was table lamp technology and as the flex was a bit toooo long then just roll it up and push the slack behind a book case

Seriously, are we suggesting that Hitachi had several spare class 80x wiring looms laying around and decuded to try and shoehorn them into an 810? Sounds Unbelievable.

Wouldn't surprise me. There's always someone who decides to do something their own way because doing it the right way doesn't matter/doesn't work/is too difficult, regardless of being told about the issues it causes. I remember a case some years back where I worked when a guy insisted his way was the only way you could do a certain job in the given time, despite it causing various issues with lost production & damages. It took a manager challenging him to a race, if he won he could stay on, on a parallel line. The manager beat him hands down with zero faults. If anything I think things have got quite a bit worse since then with less & less having pride in doing a good job right.
