Please enjoy this picture of our flagship train with its wonderful convivial ambience. Mood lighting? There is only one mood - that of a police helicopter searchlight.

:D

The seat moquette makes a GWR IET look positively joyful. It's really not difficult to get lighting right, but somehow...

I actually don't think the rest of the interior is that bad. The lighting makes a lot of difference in my view.

That picture is of a GWR 800 as first built (the flat cloth didn't last long). It's not an EMR interior. Those have FISA LEAN seats, not Fainsa Sophias, and it's a bit more purple.

:D I was about to reply saying it looks very familiar to anyone using GWR!

Their seat padding only just outlived the flat cloth!

From what I read on here regards the bright lighting, seems like people won’t be getting much kip on their journey back!

It’s our most common train on IC these days sure, but I’d say the flagship is the 390. It delivers the essential links to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow.

Amd the ambience on them is the worst of the lot.
They feel so claustrophobic - even worse after refurbishment, with the tall and wide seat backs ... not to mention the tilting profile making the seats narrower, and the wide bulkheads between windows, and as for the (pretty much) non-existent alignment of seats with windows in Standard - polite words fail me.
Give me an 807 from Crewe every day of the week. Way more enjoyable way to travel.
But we've exchanged similar thoughts before - perhaps we should just agree to differ?

This is - as I think I’ve pointed out before - not an objective fact.
But we digress so I’ll allow it.

Just seen an unbranded 810 at Harpenden on the 3A28 test run.
definitely 009, EMR currently use 2 810s for Driver Training - 008 and 009 (however not sure whether 006 May come in use soon as that's just been accepted in) - and 008 has full stickers whereas 009 does not, a good way to distinguish the 2.

It would appear that 810010 has now got a timetable to run into Etches Park now for Friday 31st October: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K45521/2025-10-31/detailed

Do we know what route the first 810 will be serving?
Yes. St Pancras to Nottingham and Sheffield! :D

Serious point - they're used interchangeably as today's 7-car departures from St Pancras show (bold is 222004, italics are 222003).
Sheffield: 0832 1132 1802 2132
Nottingham: 1335 1705 2335

I picked 7-cars as they're easier to see on RTT and the best/easiest thing for EMR to do is probably put the first 810 onto a diagram for one of the 7 car 222, because
  • No splitting from/joining to other units
  • Seat capacity is similar to 7-car 222 (you can see how both 7-car have a peak-time London departure)
  • 7-cars are also the priority to hand over to Lumo

Why would that be a priority for EMR?

I'd have thought that with EMR facing a shortage of capacity, handing over shorter units first would be better, if they can get away with it.
But Lumo is taking the 7 car units, so the other 5 cars would be of little interest to them.

According to Lumo's own PR, they're taking 5 x 222 units of 6 cars each (33 cars).
So they have to take at least 2 of the 7-car trains (222001-222004)

Post #3 in this thread suggests it will be 222001-005 (they already have 222005 which is currently 5-car)

There will be 3 orphaned centre cars but there are speculative threads for that discussion.

I join the chorus of posters stating that it’s a contractual obligation. EMR has no choice in the matter - the specified trains are going regardless of whatever priorities EMR may have.

Move for 810010 today has been cancelled.

Have EMR done away with seat reservations in light of the upcoming 810 introduction? I've just tried getting seat reservations for a journey from Sheffield to London at the end of November and have been told seat reservations are not available.

Probably the reservation system is still broken or on 2G

I think they did formally announce suspending reservations until the new fleet is in

To make it easier for readers, would you be able to say which service that is.
