It never rains but pours.

810018 working the last St Pancras to Nottingham service is now experiencing issues and has come to a halt between Market Harborough and Leicester.

It’s also the last direct service of the day from St Pancras to Sheffield.

Absolutely appalling, That just leaves the 2304 to Derby which arrives there about 2am.

There appear to be further late night/very early morning woes for EMR with their 810s.
Friday night's 1D88, 23.35 St.Pancras to Nottingham, left Market Harborough 4 minutes late at 01.13.
45 minutes later it's just passed LR235 signal, between East Langton and Kilby Bridge, after standing in the berth TC for over 40 minutes.

*edit* finally arrived at Leicester at 02.06, after leaving St. Pancras at 23.47, 2 hrs. 19 mins. with 2 intermediate stops.
The old 16.35 St. Pancras to Nottingham (1D54) used to be timetabled 1 hr. 46 mins. to Leicester, with 4 intermediate stops, a class 45 loco & 8 coaches. Good grief!!

In fairness you are comparing a middle of the day service to tonight's final departure of the night, which is timetabled for a two track railway between STP and Bedford so usually follows an all-stops Thameslink all the way, and tonight has had two special stop orders in for Bedford and Wellingborough, so it will take much longer with the 45 minute stop or not

Looks like 810018 on this working may have had issues when switching over to diesel mode. Modelling of the subsequent very sluggish acceleration through the signal berths after Loughborough suggests the set was operating with only around 50% of the normal diesel traction power.

(interestingly 810014 appeared to be on similar low power on Wednesday's 1D71 working. Most other sets generally normal apart from 810011 which is invariably operating with seemingly an engine out).

We were on the LSL excusion to Eastbourne yesterday and we passed Harpenden on the way down the MML we saw a EMR class 810 stopped at the station with doors open (including the drivers) and people milling around, took a moment to realise that it was not supposed to stop there and guessed it was having a reboot as about 20 minutes later it passed us again. Looks like it was 810012 on the 1C20 07:34 from Sheffiled looking back as RTT

There is a 5Q30 Old Dalby - Doncaster Carr tonight if it runs.Don't think there are any other IET's at Old Dalby apart from 810's.

A very very positive experience on an Aurora today which was great to see!

810012 performed beautifully and we approached St Pancras around 7 minutes early, and pulled in 3 minutes early after waiting for a platform.

Everything onboard worked as far as I could tell, and there was a good staff presence as well.

There is hope for EMR Intercity!!

Unfortunately it developed a fault heading north again. Made it to Nottingham in the end though.

More generally, EMR IC & Connect performance does seem to have been better in the last couple of days. Unless anybody has seen Dumbledore visit the depots, I presume this is primarily down to cooler weather. On the plus side, this makes me think that the slightly-less-reduced timetable that EMR announced last week will work.

However, this doesn't give me any reason to believe that service performance will be resilient to hot weather next summer.

And looks like it's only managed to take passengers from Sheffield to Derby this morning before failing and returning to depot. Not great.

Only short-term hope if the improved performance is down to improved Cl222 availability.

According to RTT 810012 looks to be coming back into service later.
Anyone knows about 810006 (not out for a while) and 810019 still at Old Dalby?
You would have thought the uplifted timetable end of August more 810s needed.

You mean the 11.32 from Derby to Sheffield, which was 010?
I was working it with a couple of trainees. Performed pretty well to Sheffield, return to Pancras, and back to Nottingham. Lost an engine just before Leicester, but Fitter reset a few things at Pancras and it was all good for the Wistow power changeover back to diesel.
I've been quite fortunate in having no major issues on various 810s these past 2 weeks. Hopefully things are slowly improving.

From a post on 'X' by Richard Clinnick, 6 x 810 in traffic today.
There are 6 @HitachiRailENG Cl.810s in traffic today. This also happened on 3/4/10/12/14/18 August. There were 5 in traffic on 5/6/11/13/17 August and 4 on 19/20 August. On 7 August there were 7 Cl.810s out! That's the most in August. Stats are for weekdays.

Also believe from posts on that site that Roger Ford/Informed Sources has (finally?) taken a close look at what's going on at EMR. I haven't seen it but would welcome views from those that have about whether it reveals any more information.

There is also some coverage in Rail Magazine (link below), including quotes from Alex Hynes who is CEO of the DFT train operator

Alex Hynes, Chief Executive of the Department for Transport Operator (DFTO) told RAIL: “They are in the middle of a very difficult rolling stock replacement.”

Hynes pointed out: “DFTO don’t own East Midlands Railway, but we do manage the contract. I’ve spent a good proportion of my time in the last few weeks working with EMR, Transport UK and Hitachi trying to fix the issues we are seeing.

“Our top priority is to reinstall the full timetable, and then ensure they do a much better job of the Hitachi Class 810 introduction.”

Is there no access from the rest of the train?

Last week I was on a German ICE2 set where the driver’s door wouldn’t open. Was the train cancelled? No. The driver’s door wouldn’t simply got in through the first passenger door, unlocked the power car door from the train and walked through. No drama. No safety hissy fit.

Units 810006, 010, 011, 013, 018 and 022 in service today.
810013 on at arrival at Sheffield at 15.05 went back to Derby 15.35 as ECS- 15.35 to St Pancras cancelled as far as Derby, not sure if this is train crew related rather than unit fault.
15 222s in service today although 222102 failed at Leicester at lunch time.

Finally got to ride on an 810 today, ok only from Long Eaton to Derby (on the 06:12 810006) in standard class , initial impression was looks nice if the seats a little hard for a long journey (is First any better?), air con noise noticable but not annoying but would like to hear it on a hot day.

But oh the transmission howl as we accellerated was very annoying - and loud where we were sat until we got fast enough. Diesel noise hardly noticable.

And personally I found the door opening klaxon really irritating.

Haven’t been following much lately on this thread. How are the 810s doing now? Are they running a bit better or still having lots of issues/faults?

Our friend Liamf656 will know more but looking at RTT most days recently definitely do seem to be improving slowly with less failures.

The lack of excessive heat is naturally helping a lot with things like the engines and air conditioning. Other issues still occurring.

Just thinking, it’s been a while since I’ve had a proper look at where all the 810s are and in what state they’re in, I’ve been seeing plenty a schedule made for a move from Merchant Park -> Long Marston, however not much into Etches, and also not really been keeping tabs on how many of these services have ran and what unit has ran them. Does anyone have an up-to-date list of where all the units are and in what state they’re in?
