Class 802 Diesel Under wires

A bizarre question it may seem but is there any reason why GWR would run their classes 800s and 802s on diesel? The Lizzie line and 387s are running as per normal under electric but have noticed the high speed services wizzing past the Burnham stretch under diesel.

A train fault perhaps, maybe even in extreme circumstances a BTET (block to electric traction) due to an OLE fault? Normally they are on the electric until the relevant cross over points.

This has probably been answered elsewhere so please feel free to close thread and redirect me. I am on an 802 out of Paddington (forming the 16:28 PAD-PNZ service). To my untrained ear it sounds like we are running in diesel mode. Would there be any logic or reasoning for doing this? Never noticed it before on this train. How often does this happen?

Was just on one this afternoon from Cardiff to Paddington that switched to diesel from electric at Reading for the remainder into Paddington.

All GWR 80x are running on diesel between Paddington and Reading today due to power supply issues on the OLE.

I’ll wait and see, wonder what the actual issue is, and why if they knew there was an issue at midday yesterday did it only require implementing today

Will deffo be back to electric. There was power supply issues related to engineering works (the engineering works that happened today) which has been known about for days and days, and the diesel running has been planned for days and days. Nothing that nobody in the know hadn't planned for today. As not to overload the wires, the 80x which can run in diesel mode did, which left enough juice for the 387 and 345s to run.

Note, it was a 2 track Railway in operations today in part if the Thames Valley
