Class 800 - pan up at Stirling?

Hi,
I’m considering a trip to Stirling this evening to see the 1716 London to Inverness service. I’m mainly interested to see it if this is where it’ll be going onto diesel power - is this the place please? It’s about a 100 mile round trip so I wouldn’t bother if not - I’ve seen the class many times, but always on electric south of Doncaster.

There's an automatic power changeover site just north of Bridge of Allan station, so I'd expect the pan to still be up when the train leaves Stirling.

As Railsigns mentions it will change while on the move automatically in the Bridge of Allan area.

It does sometime happen whilst stationary at Stirling, but that is the driver manually changing, so is no guarantee that will happen.

Yes, pan is up at Stirling. Changeover point is between Cornton MCB-OD level crossing and Bridge of Allan station.

Usually preheat about 20 minutes prior to change over, as engines are required to be at a certain temp.
They only start the actual engine maybe a mile or 2 before hand.

I was waiting at Haymarket the other evening for a train home. An Aberdeen - KGX service arrived on diesels and was equally noisy departing on electric!

Presumably the 09:40 Inverness to Kings Cross (Sundays) calling at Dunblane raises its pantograph there whilst on the station stop?

That's interesting. The Sectional Appendix certainly shows the changeover point for northbound trains is SOUTH of Bridge of Allan station. I wonder if the sign is a reminder to drivers in case the automatic changeover doesn't take place?
