Can't remember which day, but last week I saw a 2x 4-car unit formation of 710s at Stratford platform 10A, with the dot matrix signs saying "Not in service".

That will have been an empty stock move to Ilford, which as you might imagine, isn't that uncommon.

yes correct - all 5-car units.

710375 continues fault free running........ getting closer :)
Then its 710374 I assume next for failt free running, once Ilford has finished finishing it ?.

Then its 710270 to Ilford to be finished etc ?.

And once those last two have carried passengers closer can get no closer !.

I will guess 5 months.

Is there a reason why the trains for the all-overhead GOBLIN are 710/2 with the 3rd rail compatibility rather than the same-length AC-only 710/1?

All the 710/2's are stabled at Willesden TMD right? Which is third rail power.

The TMD itself is AC electrified, apart from the arrival road from the DC. While it is possible to get from Gospel Oak to the TMD using AC only, some trains will come back via the DC.

I am surprised. I was expecting Ilford to be commissioning/finishing 710374 as has been done with all the later 710/3s (& later 710/2s iirc). Each one was taking around three months as it is a lot more than just commissioning. I was hoping 710270 was going to be next to come to Ilford from Derby once 710374 had followed its class mates to Willesden.

Either 710374 has been given up on, done but not yet needed (so heading for storage) OR it was merely at Ilford to act as a Christmas tree. I think it was moved at 30mph max which suggests to me that it is less roadworthy than other Aventras leaving Derby. So to me that means it is still very unfit for use either because Ilford gave up on it or because it was only at Ilford as a spares donor.

What does this mean for 710270 I wonder ?. It is at Derby and was moved from Worksop (store) in the same week as 710374 iirc. I am trying to find hope that it will be delivered to Ilford soon - that way I can see the last of the 710s !. Perhaps it has queue jumped 710374 ?. Twist is that 710270 spent a considerable time in London already and only went North this year (iirc). I don't think it was necessarily ever in service ?. I am trying to recall if 710270 got to Willesden or only got as far as Ilford.

It moved Derby to Ilford on 06/09/22 and then Ilford to Derby 22/12/22.
Ah, thanks. So only spent three months in London, and that recent. No wonder I did not see it - I thought I had been lazy !. Not long before I started realising the pattern (3 months at Ilford for each one). Maybe its a dudd !. Quite likely never got near Willesden, let alone service, then ?.

What I find a tad difficult to understand is 710374 was conveyed to Ilford as a class 5 but went north as a class 8 max speed 30mph!!! Whatever did Ilford do to it?

Conjecture alert - maybe they have removed some parts making it worse OR Ilford found something wrong !.

I am hoping its parts robbed to complete 710270 !.

If it was at Ilford and, talking hypothetically it was OK, would that not be a better location from which to reach the Goblin line (via Channelsea Junction, then Temple Mills) than Willesden TMD (requires at least one reverse even for the NLL unless you go right through to Channelsea).

710374 was dragged out yesterday (Friday 01/09/2023). Derby LL to Derby LL via Sheffield.
This is the RTT entry - a whole 35mph max speed.
Apparently 37608 + 710374 + 37611
I assume it was a turning manoeuvre ?.

What next ?, a trip South ?.

Be nice to get 710270 first as that is the only other 710 not in London and I need it !.

Why are they still dragging 710s around? I thought they'd all be in service by now?

Oh right. How many more are needed to be signed off?
On the face of it, 710270 and 710374 are the last two.

Potted history. Basically, the use for the 5-car 710374-379 has not materialised as quickly as anticipated. Those 5car 710s were to replace some 378s on the North London Line (NLL) so those 378s could go to strengthen services on the East London Line (ELL) I think mainly Crystal Palace branch.

Mind you, London Overground seem to have managed to absorb four of the six. They may be gradually taking these last two (one errant 4-car) as at least the last half dozen or so 710s have arrived at about 3-month intervals, first to Ilford for about three months worth of "finishing" then to Willesden.

But both 710270 and 710374 have been sent back to Derby, rather than staying at Willesden.
