I remember reading that TfL really wanted to boost frequencies to Cheshunt and Enfield Town and were investigating turning trains Southbound->Northbound at Seven Sisters.

Perhaps if that had come to pass, there might have been some room for transverse seats.

They are nice trains right enough, however, I do miss the declassified 2+1 first class seat going to Enfield and Chingford. (317/7).
I much prefer actually being able to board the train, which was frequently not the case with the /7s.

And the less said about the flea-ridden blue NatEx interiors the better.

I understand that, however, the refreshed LO ones were lovely but yes, I think that the 710s are a far more efficient solution to the overcrowding problem.

Since the class 710s has been introduced on the Goblin capacity has been increased. My question is could it one day way down the future be extended to 5 car operation?

A few platforms need extending - eg South Tottenham and Blackhorse Road. A short extension also needed at Gospel Oak which isn't necessarily easy to do.

Given the effort they went to in order to reduce 378206, 378209 and 378232 to four car length for the initial post-electrification service, it seems the desire to increase platform length is not there.

It's only a 4tph service, they could probably quite easily squeeze in a fifth (or even sixth?) train an hour to increase capacity if they needed to, before we even start to think about extending platforms.

Could they easily increase the service?

It is also a freight route and has to deal with Liverpool Street to Shoeburyness services at the weekend over part of the route and there is a single line platform at each end with a relatively long lead (relieved at one end by the new station at Barking Riverside in due course).

Both extension of the rolling stock and a more frequent service are both highly speculative proposals of course and there are no official plans as far as I am aware.

The official position is six 4-car units for the line with two more to come when Barking Riverside opens.

I'm sure I read somewhere that 5tph might be introduced between Barking and Barking Riverside only, if demand requires it, although I can't imagine how this would fit with the nice logical 15 minute timetable the GOBLIN has at the moment. Perhaps it'd be in the morning/evening peaks if lots want to commute to central London, the old PIXC-busters return slotted in between the schedule.

Are you saying two units of the same class ordered by the same operator are not compatible with each other due to being a different sub class?
As others have pointed out. Different and long-standing software issues, each subclass is on a different software version.

The focus is very much streamlining what is already there as opposed to adding new functionality, and so far to be fair its being going very well.
I am told that there is core functionality that still needs to be resolved!

The Old Dalby units have been there for months. Wouldn't read much into it.
Thanks. I suspected as much !. Does that mean nobody needs Old Dalby for testing anything else ?. Obviously not 710s unless the trio there are getting extra testing.

Currently there is 344s, 701s, 710s, 720s, 730s all being tested for London North Western, Crossrail, Great Anglia and Southwestern.
Also a 313 and 180 there for in cab signalling testing.
They can fit a lot into the test centre.

378 in passenger traffic despite comments elsewhere

I wonder if that means the 710s (710/3s ?) are finally going to appear on the North (er West) London Line ?.
Not needed until ELL service increase happens, which Boris put into tall grass during first financial settlement. Take a guess as to what year it might reappear

All three of the serviceable 710/3s working on the Watford DC Line today in quick succession - 710376 on the 1315, 377 on the 1330 and 378 on the 1345 from Euston to Watford Junction. I also saw one Class 378 on the route, alongside Class 710/2s which formed the remaining services.

710256/270 and 710374/375/379, I believe, are the remaining Class 710 units to enter passenger service.

Slight chance 710375 is in London but the report of that might be an error ?.

There’s a separate thread about the incident, there’s no mention of any serious injuries or fatalities:
