I've heard they are all out of traffic this week receiving minor modifications...

I heard that 70001 was out last night as it worked its way through South Tottenham. (Not sure what it was working though).

Someone has mentioned to me that all the Class 70s are currently stored out of use due to various faults.

Anyone heard anything ?

give them some slack, come on!

pretty much every train that has come in new has had teething problems...

for example, all the 168's and 170's built at one period of time had to have their engines replaced due to some problem or other...

91's had major door problems when first brought in, hence there was always a mk2 set with a mk 1 buffet and the 89 at bounds green...

I know, we're all going to hate them, but it is only little problems that will get ironed out...

I don't believe OldTimer was criticising the 70s. Just asking if anyone has heard anything or hand any gen on the situation. I think you need to give him some slack ;)

And some have never got rid of their "teething" problems...

This could simply be a "warranty check" to make sure everything is operating as should be.

Now that sounds like an interesting trip.

Not everyone. I rather like them. Would like to see them in a different livery though... BR Blue with large logo. :)

I wasn't meaning to criticise his post at all, I was just trying to say that we should give them some slack at the moment as this is what happened to some of our favourite locos...

Oh, and I will give him some slack...

Door problems on a 91? Would that be the driver's doors?

Hello from a newbie :)

I'm able to offer some information from an authoritative viewpoint as i work with the Class 70s. I'm not fully genned up though, and wont pretend to be, but i can tell you that most of them have worked up at least a few hundred miles (and a couple are into the thousands) and as has been suggested, there are some teething troubles that need to be sorted out. The compressors appear to be giving some problems, and the cab heaters are not heating quite as well as they could!! But by and large, all the drivers that i know seem to be happy with them, and speaking personally, whilst i like the 66s, the 70 is a different kettle of fish entirely, and pulls very well!! The cab takes a bit of getting used to, especially the screens vice the traditional dials, but once you've got used to looking at them your eye quickly finds the info you're looking for - in our case (as drivers) it's generally the speedo and the brake pipe pressure / main res pressure. They also ride nicely, save for when you're pulling from a standing start with a heavy load on the back, but what freight engine doesn't do that? :)

I think in essence, they are simply teething problems, and GE have some good enginers over here addressing them at the moment. I wouldn't swear to it, but i have an idea you'll see them back out in traffic on Jan the 11th :)

Agree, all new stock locos from the U.S. have warranty engineers sent with them, part of the deal. similar to marine sea trials.

So what's the nickname for a 70, 175s are called hippos,

Ugly Betties, Orvilles, Plugs, GEs, and, erm... Powerhauls are the nicknames I have heard so far :D

Not forgetting Fugly are we?

I like in this months model rail, how they are trying to be nice about these...things...with the main article being about 2010 releases...

Still, i think ill be sticking to Frightliners Plugs or Fuglys for my choice of nicknames...
