You sure? I see it as 17/12/11 which is today and a pilot not due onboard until 21:15 tonight.

Roy

(Hopefully) like Karl, I was referring to the information displayed on the marinetraffic.com site, which reads: "ETA: 2011-12-16 17:00 (UTC)" and is pretty obviously incorrect, given that the boat is still heading to Newport. :) It's been showing this info for at least a week.

With a bit of playing around, you can get the site to suggest it'll reach Newport a bit after 2300.

You have me worried now.

So I know, where are you seeing your info?

11.8 knots in this weather, eh? Well, we shall just have to trust that they know what they're doing.

And that they have a big enough Crane this time.

You can see the tugs lined up outside Newport waiting for the ship...

This is even more exciting than the EC onboard map... :D

Ship docked at Newport No1 section this morning. 01:02 Sun 18th Dec 2011.

No idea as yet when the ship moves on OR what time the locos get dropped off (!) or when they then travel to Crewe or Leeds.

Update - Apparently unloading starts at 14:00 and the first one off will be 70013 (well well and wish em luck !). And that seems far too likely !.

Well - IF 70013 is not in this delivery then I would suspect it is already in Turkey along with a shipload of kits for the Turkish built version of 70s. Thats the most logical alternative - and I have heard 70013 has a different number in Turkey so that would explain the lack of reports *IF* it is there.

I need separate verification of what arrives on the quayside and I have only had one report that 70013 is on UK soil.

66419 at Newport Docks as "shunter" presumably for the new arrivals. No details yet of any movements away from the Docks.

Bit surprised but apparently they are all intermodal. Anyone confirm ?.

It now dawns on me that a replacement 70012 wll not exist.

The devil in me says that If one did go to Turkey then why would it not become 12 or 17 anyway. Now we have 13-16 delivered so that vagary is eliminated it occurs to me that if the number 12 was going to be re-used then it would have arrived now. OK perhaps be in Turkey but why leave a temporary gap in the numbering sequence unless 12 is going to appear later because of some delay (like repairing it) not just delivered out of order. If the number 12 is not going to get re-used (which is growing on me as true) then the Turkish one is going to become 17 or whatever the next undelivered number (31 ?) would be when it is time for it to leave Turkey. But then again where is the proof that there is one arriving via Turkey anyway ?.

According to WNXX, This batch of Class 70s might be the last to come through Newport Docks as it has been indicated that the next four, 70017 70018 70019 and 70020 are to come in via Liverpool.

so I suppose they're being taken to somewhere to get the ship to Liverpool.

So they won't get dropped but there may only be three to come out of the docks. (And a docker's son with a very high powered Citreon Saxo?)

Apparently they are being moved south on flat cars to Baltimore for poss shipping due to the normal Northern waterways being closed for the winter. Only seen that pic of 017 being moved that way so far so not sure how far the build has got! If we get pics of more going South in the same manner it would seem that the next shipment mooted for March is "on".

The four Class 70's are reported to be still in Newport docks and visible from the A48.

No firm news yet on their maiden run on the main line. Suggestions being mentioned so far are tomorrow 22nd, or next Tuesday 27th.

Cheers,
Bob.

Lake Erie usually freezes over for winter, which is why 70017 was caught travelling through new York state, seems strange to send it over on its own though, 70007 went to Germany first so I can understand that, is a similar plan in place for 70017?
