Passengers actually took advantage of the extra service at Longcross! usually there is a several hour gap between roughly lunchtime and the evening peak.

The 707s are excellent units and I can't wait for them to be in service on Hounslow services. They're a huge improvement on the 458s that run most of the services.

No toilets. This means they are worse!

Anyone who's been on one today who has also been on a 700, how do they compare (apart from the 707s obviously having no bogs)?

First thing I noticed was the seats are softer than the 700. The PIS software is similar, but I think the screen with the big coloured-in carriages along with the choice of colours is a bit cartoon-like!
And yes, the toilets, hmm. We arrived at Reading and the guard immediately had to hot-foot it to the nearest toilet himself!

I do have a vid to prepare, I'll do it when I get home tonight and post it here.

I did wonder of anyone would make use of it as a passenger.

If it's popular and there are staff spare, could they run these services more often with passengers whilst testing them?

Very true. I've tweeted swt, it must be ten times now, asking why, and they just ignore it every time.

In my 458 back from Ascot after riding the 707s, the aircon was completely dead. At least the twitter team actually acknowledged me

Probably nothing that the train crew can do unless there's a local MCB that they can trip and then reset.

In 3 of 5 carriages it was blowing out hot air, and dead in the other 2. I'm aware the guard can't do anything so just tweeted and hoped for the best.

Another thing about the 700 and 707, apparently if the ac sockets trip, there's nothing the driver can do to reset them and it's probably a depot job! I've been on a few 700s now where the sockets are dead. And they're in every coach on a 707 so it's going to be a more likely occurrence.

I have been on plenty of Class 458s with crap AC, they often make a lot of noise without really pushing much or any air.

Happens a lot to me

I went down to Eton and Windsor last week and I traveled on a 458 there and back and it was boiling but the AC was clearly on, I put my hand under those cheap looking vents they have and couldn't feel a thing.

I like the 458 and the seats and the general feeling of the train but the AC is a complete joke.

Do you mean the electrical sockets? If the HVAC (AC) stops working for whatever reason the unit is to go out of service asap. As for the sockets, after six months of testing we haven't noticed the sockets trip once.

Sockets on the 707s you mean? Have you tried overloading them?
There is definitely a couple of 700s running round with dead sockets. Unless they've been fixed now.

Yes, that was my impression of the seats. Still an odd posture, though.

To be fair, I actually preferred them to the mushy, partially collapsed seat I sat on on my 458 on the return journey.

(First post so yay)

I live fairly close to Brentford, so I'll have a gander tomorrow morning to see if it's actually a 707. Either way, it's a rogue service to Reading from Brentford, so this'll be interesting.

Welcome to the forum.

A/C on the 458s is either very good or very bad. When it is good it is fantastic - much better than any 450.

will the new TOC bother to repaint (or vinyl) trains it does not want to keep?

Simon

As I said a few posts back, apparently they are just going to be plonking new logos on for now, and only repainting as interior refurbishment comes up. Which likely won't for the 707. But if they wish to put toilets in whilst they await the Aventras, it's apparently an easy job.

And 458s also have the plus side that if it's really packed up the guard can open the windows with their carriage key.

Unless it is the ex-460 car in 458501-530 or any car of 458531-536!
