Other 701 Updates:
Today, there is a 20-car set of units on test, consisting of 701025 + 701044. Is testing really going that bad?
How would a 20-car set fit into Waterloo? Have you considered that it is likely to be a case of a set swap with the original set not being de-allocated and the data feeds showing both?

Round the Hounslow loop
Is that testing/practicing emergency pushouts?

No. It's a set swap that hasn't been properly deallocated/hasn't pulled through to RTT. Saw it pass me at Twickenham and was most definitely a single unit!

The 5Q paths round the Hounslow Loop are for driver training rather than any kind of testing generally.

We now have a train crew bulletin saying phase 4 is to Hampton court from 28th October. As mentioned previously in this thread. No mention of what diagram it is yet

Good news in theory, but I'm not confident it will make much difference on the ground given they can't even reliably run the current diagrams.

So they're calling it a new phase for Shepperton and Hampton Court, even though both times the routes got like one or two a day? I think that's quite pathetic.

Can't wait for Phase 20,532 when all the units have been rolled out, coincidently occurring in the year 2053

For Hampton Court there is the peak extra which would free up a pair of 455s and would only require a single driver/guard. The evening Shepperton is the problem and it's plausible another Windsor diagram could be introduced more reliably. Assuming it would be the peak extra to avoid having to replan a bunch of services would only be running:
Y08996 5J90 0635 WIMBLEDON PARK DEPOT SDGS - LONDON WATERLOO 0651
Y08997 5J92 0707 LONDON WATERLOO - SURBITON 0745
Y08995 2J92 0752 SURBITON - LONDON WATERLOO 0824
Y08998 5J93 0838 LONDON WATERLOO - HAMPTON COURT 0859
Y08999 5Y52 0910 HAMPTON COURT - WIMBLEDON PARK DEPOT SDGS 0942
Two potential moves from Long Marston to Wimbledon have appeared for tomorrow and Thursday. From RTT maybe a bit of reshuffling between SWR locations as well this week though hard to tell whether it's 701s or something else.

20?? That would have certainly bene a sight to behold. Is it on RTT?
And for those wondering, that's 406.22m long!
Knew you'd be gullible enough to believe that.

Today's testing:
5T90 - Clapham Yard - Guildford U.C.H.S - Goes to Waterloo, then to Guildford via Epsom.
5T91 - Guildford U.C.H.S - Clapham Yard - Reverses at Guildford, then heads back to Clapham via Epsom.
This testing also takes place in the evening, finishing up at around half past midnight.

When the bridge over the orchestral pit was built, wasn’t some of the track lifted and filled to create the gate line thus the train stops moved countryward?

Platforms 20-24 have an operational length (inside signals) that allows for a 12 car (eg 450) maximum, or other types that amount to shorter than that. Unlike many other platforms at Waterloo, there is also no platform sharing permitted in 20-24.

I believe they were also shortened at the "country" end.

Correct, P24 most notably AFAIR, the trackside 'face' of p21 being the one that remains mostly as it was originally built (from memory again, so will stand corrected!). They were shortened in order to allow for a more domestic style track layout to be installed (crossovers etc) between the inbound home signal gantry (in to P21-24) and the platform ends. Said gantry is itself positioned London side of Carlisle Lane Junction, ie: on the short section of self contained (international) station approach roads, hence the platforms had to be shortened at the Country end.
The old Eurostar track layout that once existed in the International throat, London side of Carlisle Lane, was completely un-compatible with the requirements of the planned domestic services that were to use those platforms.

Is that also why the stop signs on platform 24 (only) are placed quite a way back from the buffer stops?
If the Stop car mark on 24 was at the end of the track like it usually is at terminus stations it would be breach the gateline.

Creating a gateline at a different angle specifically for 24 would have intruded on the lifts and potentially a dangerous crowding issue which could impact turnaround times.

So how did the 20 car double Arterio train fit into the former Eurostar platforms on the test run?

I think it was stated that it was a data error after the set was swapped out last minute and was in fact just 1 x 10 car.
As expected 2J92 is booked as a 701 from next Monday 28th.
Thanks, slightly off topic, but do you know why the set has to run to Waterloo from Wimbledon Park then to Hampton Court before starting at Surbiton, same after the diagram finishes at Waterloo (runs to HMC then to Wimbledon Park)

It was put into place after the 707s left, as the trains replacing it were 5-car and not 10, and kept being switched out regularly. Thames Ditton onwards gets very busy in the morning peak, so I imagine they had to put in a second diagram to cope with that. I think it starts at Surbiton because otherwise it would clash with the ex 707 diagram. Not sure why it runs back to Hampton Court after it's finished though.
