Class 700 getting ends wrong

I was coming home to Croydon on the 20:51 from London Bridge (to Gatwick iirc) today Friday 09/12/2022 when I noticed something I have seen before on more than one occasion.

I was sat in the "First Class" at the rear. Except the displays showing toilet status and coach loading levels indicated I was in the front carriage as that was highlighted with "you are here". So wrong end. Now the message saying standard class ticket holders were permitted was displaying and also as we approached Norwood Junction the message came out on the tannoy saying something along the lines of passengers wishing to alight should walk forward from this coach. The unit also got the stations and destination correct.

So why is that some parts of the software get the train reversed ?. Or did I misread or misinterpret ?.

The train is front to back, coaches 1 to 12, but the displays are left to right or right to left in terms of direction of travel. At some point there should have been a display that said "you are in coach X of Y", and the rear coach will always be 12 or 8 depending on the length of the unit. It sounds to me like you were confused because "back" was at the right-hand end of the display?

No I’ve noticed them wrong on a few occasions lately, OP isn’t imagining it

Its deffo been wrong. Been at the rear end and the train loading thinks we are at the front.

I noticed the same yesterday from Gatwick to Farringdon. I was in the very front coach, and the display said I was in coach 12, closest to the "back" indication on the right hand side of the display.

I agree.

I've been on several where the carriages were numbered from the back forwards recently, both 8 car and 12 car units.

It said "You are here" under coach number one and indicated that coach number 1 was the front but I was in the rear most coach.

It has been like that for a few years now. I travelled from Brighton to Bedford back in August 2019, when I travelled up to Bedford I was in the front carriage i.e. carriage 1. When I returned later in the day on a different class 700 unit from Bedford in the last carriage of the train, I was still in carriage 1 according to the train display!
