i've heard a lot about the class 67's and 73/9's being problematic , and it just makes me wonder if sometime it'd maybe be worth hiring in class 68's to do sleeper duties

maybe when the 68's on the fife circle line get replaced, this could be potential work for them.

I know the 67's are probably not desirable due to their high fuel consumption and low tractive force, so a 68 like they did on chiltern, might be a more suited replacement?

Only if GBRf, who are contracted to provide traction for the Caledonian Sleeper, felt it necessary to hire a class 68 from DRS. Class 68s also won't be fitted with the Dellner auto-couplers necessary to be compatible with the new CS mark 5 stock.

one thing i wonder too, wouldnt it be a good idea for MK5 sleeper stock to have a driving van trailer? so as they dont need to be shunted about

Putting in DVT is not going to stop all of the shunting that this train does, possibly just reduce what needs done at a terminus, the new Mk5s don't have the required jumpers to connect to an engine anyway. Putting in a DVT will also mean that the guard cannot access all of their train once it has be joined together.
