Mk3a and Mk3b coaches are restricted to 110mph anyway, as the electrical relays for 125mph operation are not fitted
The only time a Class 67 would be able to operate at 125mph, would be when hauling a empty HST coaches, or a set, or Mk4 coaches
However, I believe there is also a 80mph speed restriction on the temporary loco-HST Power Car coupling
Therefore there is little point in having any Class 67s passed for more than 100mph, due to the increased service requirements

There was also a plan for a 125mph parcel service, using Class 67 locos on the WCML, but that doesn't seem to have progressed any further

67029 is an odd one out - banned from going over either 75 or 90 (can't remember which) as it has cast iron brakes

what RA does the WHL have? Cos class 67s are RA8, which is a pretty heavy axle load, so I'm assuming on a lot of other stuff in Scotland (the Oban line in particular) they are banned?

I'm only saying 67025 in general, 67s can't be banned, they do the sleepers :| lol

67s aren't banned from the WHL: there's at least one return service a day using 67s, namely The Caledonian Sleeper. Although, I'm not sure about the Oban branch, or the line to Mallaig.

A small number have been fitted with Cast Iron brakes to allow operation to Fort William: source. These are restricted to 80mph, and are also RETB fitted.

The WHL is restricted to RETB fitted trains, that is why other 67s are banned, not the brakes. The brake pads were replaced because, for some reason, the original ones were suffering from extreme wear after every trip along the WHL. This is why the only 67s with cast iron brake pads are the RETB fitted ones and vice-versa.

...and that's what I said. That they were fitted with these new brakes effectively to allow operation because of the breaking issues. Of course, my wording has implied something else.

EWS ordered these locos in the late 90s for high speed parcels traffic (mainly WCML?), at the time why was the high axle load either (a) not seen as a problem or (b) not picked up on at all?

Whilst dicussing the use of Mk3s and DVTs, has anyone else heard the rumour that DB Schenker have bought 28 Irish rail mk3s for Chiltern. Although they would need to be regauged the thinking behind it is that they have power operated doors unlike UK mk3s. The plan I've heard is on busy services and some of the Stourbridge-Londons they will run 67+mk3s+DVT.

Just a rumour I heard......

I read something that the bogies were designed to have 3 axles instead of the current two. But ended up having two due to costs.

See my friends shot HERE. I believe this would be the 3 axle bogie equivalent of a class 67 in Spain

Not a rumour, October 09 was the last I heard for the 67 and Mk3s for Moor St - Marylebones.
