Class 66. Why so unpopular?

Well the company is in german hand's not being serious but they couldn't beat us in the war so now there going for our frieght damn that sadolf gitler.
Maybe they will start buying european loco (or even a diesel hydraulic or two).

Them being german has nothing to do with anything. If you don't think they'll do a better job than EWS, then try doing it yourself!

I'm going to chip in my 2p and say that I actually quite like the 66s. They're lean mean diesel hauling machines!

EWS have already shot themselves in the foot! Back in the start they owned freight, no one else. By being crap at organising themselves, becoming so full of themselves with their "new" 66's regardless of the fact that restricted a lot of the traffic other companys sprang up & stole traffic left, right & centre.
Thankfully EWS has helped decent firms like Freightliner,DRS & even Jarvis to get a foothold in the freight scene due to EWS's incompetance.
Drivers flood out of EWS all the while & treat the driver training scheme as a good way to learn the trade before moving on elsewhere, moral is shot to hell & I havent heard much good about working for them in a long long while. The takeover by DB hasnt changed a damn thing within the staff, conditions are still poor (& hell I work for ATW & still wouldnt go to EWS).:???:

66s, I like them, there not the best but not the worst.

It just makes me laugh how everyone seems to hate them but yet give it 10 years or ****ibly abit more after all this newer stuff will come in and everyone will be frothing over them.

It's like Valentas, the mojority didn't used to blink an eye at a time where every HST was Valentas, but yet, now MTUs are coming in everyone is going mad over them including me.

So it's just a matter of time before everyone has a favourite 66 and when some are old and get scrapped etc they will be like 37s are now, people chasing them on tours etc.

I think you will find, the more dedicated enthusiasts have left bashing now their favourite locos had gone.

Well, I'm not the biggest fan of diesels, as they arent as interesting as a good old steamer. The 66's in my opinion are the least interesting diesels ever. They have no character. Ok, they look reasonably attractive, but what is so special about them?

I'm not a fan of the Sheds, I can't stand the Ying Ying Ying Ying you get.
But they are photogenic, and IMO they have a decent design. They also look good at Preservation Sites, I wouldn't mind owning 66727

It's probably cos they make the same (well, almost) sound as a 67, and 67s must be my favourite of the GM family.

And nahh, it's me, I'm just a grumpy sod today for some reason

Ha, thats ok. I do like the 67's, they are reasonably common down my way on the VSOE. I dont really see many sheds without travelling miles for them.

I actually quite like the Ying of 66s, but 67s have a slightly different one - faster idle I think?

I don't mind them both or the 59s.

Just to agree with a select few I have got to say that they have grew on me with the best being the Dreads followed by the Fleds then the GBRF lot ews are getting to be abit beastly and then Freds well nothing to say there AT ALL.

I don't mind them, mind you I have a soft spot for the Bluebirds and Freds, but to be honest they spoil variety.
Theres also too many of them- I can't keep up with the latest deliveries or numbering; they've got to stop coming over some time..

66's suck & always will, hopefully some of you will become drivers & then you can experience the crapness in full. Mind you by then there will be no benchmark to show you what a proper loco feels like to drive. As for 67's.......I'm staggered that anyone in their right mind could like one of those (Except TDK but he's used to driving EMU's so anythings better than that :grin: )
