CLASS 66 timing load

Sorry if this sounds a daft question, but what is the average timing load for a Class 66 loco on a freight working ?

Depends on trailing weight but 1200 tonnes for a class 4, 75C66S12 and anything for a class 6 from 800 tonnes to 2200.

Interesting we were talking about this the other night a freight was dropping time, looked at TRUST it was 32 loaded, with 1900 tonnes Class 4

seems to be an increasing issue, longer heavier intermodals, but running times the same as when they ran with 20 wagons !

Can tell you now, we don't have the SRTs for timing a class 4 at 1900 tonnes. Some are beginning to get done at 1400 but that is it. The delay should go to the FOC as they would have bid with 1200 on the back.

FOCs cheating with more tonnage than they should. It also puts pressure on the ibfrastructure as these trains are usally longer than they should be and as such there can situations where trains are scheduled in wait in loops but being over length no longer fit.

So, based on 'The Planners' answer and 'swills' examples,should those two trains quoted be Class 6, and have corresponding timings ? Makes you wonder how many other trains rumble around the Country with inadequate schedules

Never known intermodal as Class 6. If anything it is the FOC blagging it, any delay is theirs as they are running overweight. As for inadequate freight timings, how long have you got?!

Freights won't run overlength unless authorised by Network Rail. Not being able to fit in loops doesn't necessarily mean it's overlength in the true sense of the word.

Correct but its overlength for the path its has been validated to use, loops and sidings included as applicable.

Indeed, all trains run within the agreed SLU limit, which I think is 100 via Bury and approx 110 via GEML, apart from Ipswich, I think the only loop that can handle such lengths is the DGL at Colchester. (GEML).

Back in BR / RT days if we had a FL that was in excess of about 18 vehicles, in addition to the TD being sent to Marks Tey we had to bell 4-3-2-5 to denote a 'long' Freightliner, Marks Tey had certain signals that he could not stop such trains at.
