class 66 numbers

Hello,

Is it just me or are class 66's getting a bit muddled.

It used to be fairly simple but now we have 66's changing numbers.

Ex DRS 66/4's becoming 66/7's and so on.

I just about have a handle on it, but now GBRf have brought three ex Dutch 66's that are new to this country.

The Railway Magazine lists the new tops numbers as 66748,749,750

Wikipedia says 66747,748,749

I know who I would believe, still I am still a little confused.

After all there isn't a 66747, so why miss it out???

Secondly does anyone know where I can get an up to date list of the class 66's that have moved from this country to work in Europe.
Any plans to bring them back???

For once, wiki is correct. 747-749 are the ex-Dutch locos and are now in traffic. However, GBRf also have 66750/751 that have recently been imported. 750 is already at Longport being modified for UK use and 66751 entered the UK a couple of days ago and is probably at Peterborough, awaiting a move to Longport on Monday.

well it used to be a good source of info... shame its not been updated in over 3 years

although www.mainlinediesels.net is a pretty good source for info on almost all diesel locos that have been built in the last 15+ years (ish)
that includes the class 59, 66, 67, 70s and will have info on the DRS UK Lights when they are built. aswell as the European designs like the EU class 70, and Vossloh designs etc

I see what the OP means by confusing, especially 66742-746.
Note: 66048 is long term stored at Toton and 66734 is "abandoned" (most likely going to be scrapped) at Loch Treig, near Tulloch. 66521 was scrapped following accident damage sustained in the Great Heck accident.

Yeah, you're right it is 66734 that's abandoned. In fact I've seen 66733 this year, and well, I've never been to Scotland. I'll edit my post accordingly.

With regards to the numbering, neither do I, its only 66742-746 which has had two previous operators and two sets of numbers, but even then I've got used to it.
