Hi Everyone,

I'm looking into how The Auto Engine Stop Start (AESS) system is used in the railway industry.

I see there are a number of reports from 10 years ago regarding DBC fitting 90 class 66's with AESS, but there has been little since then, not sure if the fitment was fully carried out or if this is something that is still used by them?
Are there any other FOC / TOCs using or investigating this kind of tech?

Thanks

All of the active DB (UK) 66s have AESS fitted, and should be used at all times however drivers have a tendency to disable it. The control box is at number 1 end above the electrical cabinet on the second man’s side, and isolating it is a simple switch.

GBRf’s fleet are receiving AESS as part of the fitment of UpTime remote analysis software.

Freightliner 66’s and 70’s have it fitted. It’s a pain on the 70’s as you can’t disable it, only extend the 10min deadline to 30min before shutdown. You have to “activate” it on the 66, making it much more useful if sat waiting during colder weather!!!
