Hi all,

The Class 60 is now available for you to play with! By Steve Thomas, it features unique sounds recorded from class 60 no. 60009. The consist simulated is a ballast train, so it’s nice and slow!

This one really is hellfire! <D

Visit www.bveroutes-trains.co.uk/trains for the details.

You’ll also notice slight changes on the website; no link to the Forum anymore. We have decided to close the forum, for reason explained here: http://brtforum.proboards60.com/index.cgi?board=brt&action=display&thread=722

Hope you enjoy the tug! :D

The Cl60 responds very realistically. The sounds are very good and the slow build-up to power and speed is what I would expect. The first thing that strikes you with a class 60 after all it's predecessors is the quiet cab, even under full power and most of the loco and running sounds either come from outside or behind the cab.

I have given it a run on the 06.00 Brooklyn Yard to Ludgate Hill. It gave a very realistic slow pull out of the yard and a fair distance to gain line speed once on the mainline.

It really struggled up Haddon bank once speed was reduced to 30mph for the restriction. I say struggle, but this is how a class 60 usually works, slow speeds and high amps and simply keeps on going and immediately picks up on the first easement of the gradient. Therefore it wasn't a struggle in the sense that the loco was about to give up but really tackling the load and gradient with determination.

Once over the summit the power increased strongly and consistantly until having to ease off the power for ther signal check ahead. It all felt quite realistic.

As long as the wheels keep turning, even down to 5mph the loco will usually recover and start to increase speed.

As this was the first run with the 60 and also a while since I ran a freight over this route I can probably do better next time but it was a really good run as it was.

On the 'down' side! While the cab looks correct and with all the bits & pieces I would expect to see, I thought that the desk looked a little dark, even for the daylight conditions of the route. However, desk lighting is excellent when going through tunnels and I expect will look equally good in a night route. It could be that there was a fair bit of side lighting when the cab photo was taken and the scene gets darker progressively to the righthand side.

However. My overall response is that this is another excellent BVE4 locomotive and as the 60's were my favourite loco after the 47's, it's nice to have one running on BVE4. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Cheers.

BillEWS.
