Class 60 (Or Similar) Electronics Question

Hi all!

I have a friend doing a university project which involves identifying 'products' that use microprocessors dating from 1970s. He identified that railway locomotives of 1980s vintage could potentially have these installed and would still be running today. I suggested the Class 60 as it is known to have extensive microprocessor control, but I don't know anything about the microprocessors used.

Does anyone here happen to know if and what microprocessors were used in the Class 60 or similar locomotives (possibly the 56, 90, 91 or 92)?

Might be a tall question, but much appreciated!

56 isn't micro control, it's still analogue.

60 (and 89) is Motorola 68000
90/91 are Intel 8086
92 is newer, so suspect still Intel, but not sure which generation.

Seems you've had your question answered but if there's any further interest I can recommend this training video for the Class 60 "Steadfast" which demonstrates the microprocessor-operated driver diagnostic panel.
