Class 59 request???

Hey there simple question how much tonnage can a class 59 pull as I really cannot work out some of the data available.

The 59s out of Whatley and Merehead can be timed with anything up to 4200 tonnes trailing.

will have to dig out my 59 book later.

there could have been more maybe when they done the load test on Savernake and when they done a heavies train haul (test, no destination) but didn't reach Westbury and was ended near Frome IIRC

Have you got Modern Railways Illustrated: Class 59s? Haven't had a chance to read it properly yet, but glanced through it, & looks pretty informative. ;)

that's the one :)

it was May 1991, they performed a megatrain trial at a total weight of 12,108 tonnes, measuring 5,415 (1 mile 44 yards) apparently was the heaviest train in Europe!

It had various problems before it got on the way and eventually when it did move, it didn't get to far when the coupler snatched off the middle!
