Class 57/6
A small fleet of four Class 57/6 locomotives are used to operate the Night Riviera Sleeper services and provide emergency haulage for failed HST sets. They were painted in First Great Western green and gold livery but are being repainted into the same livery as the Class 43 power cars. Due to the problems that they caused, FGW had to hire 57/3 Virgin trains to operate its Night Riviera. Class 57/4s now operate the Taunton-Cardiff services

Wikipedia is only as good as the people who bother to put the information into it. Liarpedia is a bit strong a criticism, if you see an obvious error on an article then correct and reference it.

I'm tempted to give up, every time I correct info on there (providing references) it always gets undone.

Latest is over the South Western Turbo branding - someone believes that one line in a meet the manager session overides various online documents and features in magazines from the time.

As mentioned 57401 is a unit car number, so can not be used again in the TOPS numbering system. Simples!

I do, its the class 156 posted above which contains vehicle 57401

57301 was free as the 573xx range was class 155 vehicles, when converted to 153 units 52301-49 (I know but I can't be arsed to look up the full range) are numbered 153301-49 and 57301-49 became 57351-99 or 153351-99

As for the 576xx range - that was free because these were never built

There was no such tradition - it just happened that the 31s, 37s and 47s all ended up having the '/4' series as it was the next available in the sequence. For the Peaks, the '/1' series was the next available. If you want a 45/4, it has a huge boiler on it!
