Class 57’s based at Penzance

Just a quick query. I notice that the sleeper Class 57’s are now based at Long Rock, Penzance. When was the last time main line loco’s (not Class 08’s) have been based at Penzance.

Thanks for the Wikipedia link. So from 1977 until recently Long Rock was essentially used for stabling HST’s. So mainline loco’s last based at Long Rock was almost certainly prior to 1977.

You would probably have to go back to the steam days as locomotives were only allocated to "main" Maintenance Depots following diselisation. Penzance was not one of them. Apart from locomotives working into Penzance from distances the Depot covering the work in Cornwall would have been Plymouth (Laira)
