Marcus - you've obviously forgotten that Southern's 377s were originally 375s ...

And yes, as Electrostar has said, I meant in exchange ...

Only the 377/3s were weren't they? And the current 377s were always intended for where there are now weren't they?

And, yes sorry I read you post wrong

Presumably if they did this merger the couplers would need to be standardised between the present 375 and 377 fleets, which would mean yet another almighty renumbering effort?!

Yea, Southeastern just didn't see the need to re-number them :)

There goes my idea for a quick re-livery then! Are these types of new stock easier to vinyl than say the second-generation EMUs like the 455s?

I know it's slightly off topic, but I'd thought I'd post it however.

Class 466016 is riding better than the other 466s at the moment, by that I mean smoother ride on the notoriously bumpy Sheerness Line. Could it be that this unit has had some work done to the mechanical side of things? Is there any way of finding out?

Cheers.

Am I right in thinking Southern and FCC Electrostars and SWT Desiros are white bodied with liveries made up of vinyl covers?

Well Southerns 377s are painted, FCC is painted purple with pink doors but the FCC branding are vinyl (including the lines). Not sure about the SWT desiros.

Fincra5 is correct, there will obviously be a stock shuffle (the talk is of Networkers moving to the Southern area, and SET will get Electrostars back).

Why would Southern want any of the networkers, the only reason we got the 313s was so Southern had enough stock in the London area for 10car operation. I know if the franchises were merged then this may happen but it still doesn't make that much sence as a stock reshuffle.

This was one of the few units that had rheostatic braking enabled by accident last year

I know this sound obvious, but have a look for shiny and fresh paint on the
bogies

Ref above post

Some of the 465/6's have had the Rheo brakes back in for a while now. Very handy
when you cross your legs and set the Speed Set (cruise control) for 3mph. Usually
takes a couple of mins to figure out what's happened

Sorry, misread your post ...

If you have a look at the numbers, I would say Southern will get all the Networkers which means practically all 377s would go to SET.

I don't doubt you - but that seems absolutely farcical to me. Networkers were never designed for the SN network; there's been a lot of cash splashed at providing the SN network with more power than the SE for the new toys; 377s have routes that will be ill-served by 465s (not that that seems to matter to DfT but still).

I'd be very surprised if it happened!

I think it's more likely to be rheostatic.
I'm not aware of there really being any trains in the UK that use regenerative braking?

A couple for Electrostar classes have regenerative breaking, such as 357s and some 377s.

AFAIK all the Electrostar Classes have regen enabled, as do the Class 365, 390, 395 and 458.
IIRC all the electric Desiro's do as well, not 100% sure though.

I believe the 350s do and the 450s and 444s are in the process of being fitted.

Why is this? Are they still deciding on livery? I think it looks good though!!

It's certainly evolutionary not revolutionary, and not a major change from the revised Connex livery. Different colour doors and a slightly redesigned tapered end.
