Cann someone remind me what the red handle in a class 465/6 drivers cab which says "open" and "release" does?

It releases the cab door (it’s only present on Metcam Networkers).
If it’s left in the down position, the door will look closed, but interlock cannot be obtained, invariably when the unit is part of a 10 car formation being driven from the far end, hence its nickname the F red handle (you can guess the expletive).
