Class 465 and 319

I see in the cab of Networker Class 465s that there is a key switch to enable coupling with Class 319 units. Did this ever happen in practice and under what circumstances?

Certainly happened whilst they were being tested. Not in service though.

I have found this picture online from the very early days.

319004 & 465001

Not your everyday formation with 319004 and 465001 in tow passing Hall Place between Crayford and Bexley running as 5X96 13+14 Slade Green depot to Strawberry Hill depot. Friday 21st August 1992. 194-10.

There is an interesting comment under that picture about a test being done more recently, albeit probably over ten years ago now, to see if it still worked for recovery purposes.

Iirc crofton park around 2009 a networker rescuing a 319.

The switch in the networker cab was actually a cut out of the braking system (guess the networker regenerative braking system) it allows braking compatibility between the 2 units.

Crofton Park station at around 07:11am 465933 working 2K04 06:58 Victoria - Gillingham had come to a stop at Crofton Park with a convertor fault. 319452 working 1E81 05:51 Bedford - Sevenoaks was called to assist the 465 to Bellingham Sidings.
