I understand that 15 x 465/0s have had the PRM mods at Ilford (ZI) - were any of these fitted with the Universal toilets?
The first unit modified spent ages at ZI and it was assumed by many including certain magazines (and myself) that the new toilet had been fitted then and to the rest done over the following months
They are now going through ZI quickly - this could be partly because they are saving up to a week not fitting the new toilets at present
The similar bodied 365s did have 25 units fitted with the Universal toilets but not the rest even though they too have had the other mods
Could this be a similar problem?

Over the last week, I've noticed on the refurbished 465/9s that when they're pulling into a station, you can hear the traction motors "whine" down whereas before, you wouldn't hear anything except maybe the squeak of the brakes.
Have they been switching on the regenerative braking whilst doing this refurb? Its the only thing I can think of that would cause the trains to behave differently.

The regen has been reinstated for a few years now.

on the BREL 465s, yes. Not on the Metro-Cammell built 465/2/9s.
There is currently an unrelated trial to see whether they can reliably reintroduce Rheostatic braking to the 465/2/9s & 466s. So far I've only travelled on 465913 with it re-enabled, but there may well be others.

Not at all - Regardless of the franchise bidding process, these units have a number of years left in them yet. Compared to the 465/0/1s the costs relating to the rate they get through disk brake pads must be quite a bit higher.

I very much hope not (and the language of the ITT strongly suggests they are expected to be replaced with higher capacity units on the suburbans at least)

I’ve noticed the 465/2s are getting their flooring replaced with the same turquoise vinyl as the /9s as they do the RVAR work. Looks better than the bubbly original flooring on the BREL units!

They are the Met-Camm units so slightly different - is the work being done by a different contractor?

They’re being done at Doncaster like the 465/9s were so are getting the same flooring replacement. 466s will get the same too.

I'm surprised the 466s are getting done. I didn't see them as having enough of a future to warrant having much done in the way of refurbishment work.

I think their days are numbered. There's very little else for them in 3rd rail land beyond SE London and Kent, and from a capacity perspective, they would probably no longer tick the boxes in an era where units are now specced-out to carry X number of people in Y amount of space. I would expect some kind of contractual obligation to order modern metro-optimised units in the next franchise.
There's no realistic possibility of the 465s being converted to 25kV to go anywhere else, because they don't have a recess and any modifications to make this happen would likely be seen as prohibitively expensive, or could compromise the structural integrity of the bodies.

Well they’ll certainly still be needed beyond 8 months into the next franchise when the deadline hits!

Will the 466s get the compliant toilet, or can they get away with it by always having them coupled with a compliant 465?

That only seems to cover the aspects listed in Annex B (mostly to do with door buttons) rather than toilets though?

If you were confined to a wheelchair and were able to reach the buttons, you still wouldn't be able to get on or off without a ramp or assistance. This is probably the reasoning that has been used to make an exception for door button compliance.
These dispensations don't make them exempt from making the toilets DDA compliant etc.
