458529 and another 458/5 visited P6 at Reading on test on Saturday.

I believe there are only a couple of pairs of 458/0s diagrammed on weekdays now (one of which is peaks only), and only one pair at weekends. If you still need to travel on them I'd do so very soon!

A curious observation of mine: the 'multiple of 7' units are still in original condition - 8007, 8014, 8021, 8028.

Changes to our Monday to Friday Timetable

A Few Changes to our Monday to Friday Timetable: Some good news and some bad news.
South West Trains is spending £275 million to pay for 258 more carriages between now and 2018. This equates to a 30% increase in peak time capacity.
As part of this project, some carriages are being sent away for modifications and refurbishment. In order to complete the upgrade as soon as possible we will be increasing the number of carriages which are being worked on at any one time.
This means that from Monday 28 September the 07:24 service from Reading to Waterloo will be temporarily removed from the timetable and the 17:05 service from Waterloo to Aldershot will temporarily start from Ascot.
Passengers who usually travel on the 07:24 from Reading to Waterloo are advised to use either the 07:12 service (arriving into Waterloo at 08:36) or the 07:42 service (arriving into Waterloo at 09:06).
Passengers who usually travel on the 17:05 service to Aldershot are advised to use the 16:50 service to Ascot to connect into the train to Aldershot.
These changes are expected to continue until December 2015.
Whilst we are fully aware that reducing services is never a positive step to take, the long term benefits to peak time capacity outweigh this temporary change to our Monday to Friday timetable.
This decision has not been made lightly but has been made so that we can, in the long run, deliver on our promises and increase capacity on our peak time services into and out of London Waterloo.

Obviously they want it finished before the Winter timetable starts. Given they are cancelling a service and starting one short, I'd have thought that would cost SWT money.

However I'm sure they are looking at the overall picture rather than the costs of these 2 services. I doubt some of the commuters will be happy but they are probably very hard to please whatever happens.

Can't see it really. If you study the listings that have been regularly provided by WWTownEnth in this thread, with less than three months left I reckon that is close to the normal cycle time between departure and return to service. So unless they send all the remaining 7 units now, and Doncaster seriously speeds up their production rates, I think its more likely you'd be looking at February or so?

At the moment both 2C90 and 1N93 are both shown on RTT as running next week which suggests that this decision was made very recently.

Presumably the 450-8 off 2S48 will form 2V49 instead of 1N93, and the 456-4 that does 5N54 from Ascot will drop back and form 1N93/2N51

Is it possibly a sign that the 455 re-tractioning programme (the main justification being less maintenance so no new facilities needed for 456s...) is about to proceed in earnest? (The trial units having done some testing?). So 458s needing to cover a current 455 diagram etc.? Ditto the modification programme to the 455 coms to make them compatible with the refurbished 456s?

Is it possible that the remaining 458/0s will require major exams pre December? Especially if they have been clocking up the miles slightly quicker than expected?

If Doncaster have finished all the work on the 5th cars might the work rate for refurbishing the other 4 cars possibly speed up a bit?

The strangest thing to me seems to be the timing of this change. The new leaf fall timetable starts from 04/10 so why not include this alteration as part of that change. Is the refurbishment programme on such a knife edge that one week is really going to make that much difference?

Currently the remaining 458/0s will be around until November is my thinking to why the services are staying in the leaf fall timetable. If everything is on time three 458/0's will be leaving next month and the final two will be gone by mid november.

Sadly not going to be possible, I already start work and leave work a little early to get the 17.05.

The cancellation in the morning is going to result in even more people unable to board trains at Whitton, Twickenham and Richmond. Very poor all round

I assume it wasn't possible to short form other services or cancel less used ones instead of these ones or they would have done that.

It was also a useful backup if I was running late and missed the 16:58 Windsor service. However I think it is the morning service that will cause the most problems as the trains are bussier then than at 17:05

I was thinking more that they might still be back up to strength by December for those particular removed services, but all the 458/5s conversions would still not be complete. They can still deal with a shortfall by not doing some of the mainline strengthening that is also due in December.

The problem is that they can't take a 10 car over the branch to/from Aldershot, the power supply isn't up to it.

So until such time as a power upgrade on the Camberley branch takes place it will be restricted to either 4 or 8 car trains.
