I suppose it could be substitutions a bit like using desiro's instead of 458's on the Reading Road. We've got no 458/5 diagrams that I can tell in the new timetable at our depot and only one turn with a 456 on it.Yet to make my debut on 458/5.

I've seen some 5 car workings today. Also they modified my job and I didn't do a trip to Weybridge, instead I did a Kingston rounder. Are they being used as 5 cars on the Weybridge?

SWT journey check is currently showing 5 car vice 10 car on a few Windsors and a few Waterloo rounders, looks like the two diagrams expected for 458/5s are both running as singles.

It was reported in another thread this morning, so it seems to have been an all day problem:

Well this is interesting. According to the Journeycheck page, previous 458/5 diagram is showing as being short-formed with 5 coaches instead of 10, along with another diagram on the Weybridge/Hounslow routes!

The following services:
0752 Waterloo-Weybridge
0933 Weybridge-Waterloo
1107 Waterloo-Waterloo (Route number 87)
1245 Waterloo-Waterloo (89)
(87 is via Brentford then Hounslow while 89 is via Richmond first)

We have a winner 0752 Weybridge 0933 Return which is a bit weird as I sign 458/5.I suppose at this rate I will make my debut in December.

Thanks.

There was indeed a 458/5 on Hounslows, I happened to be at Waterloo to see the 1915 via Richmond which was 458534.

I see 458533 and 458535 are now finally in service on the Hounslow Loop. I think this very good video mistakenly says they are on the Windsor route.

Any update on when 458532 and 458536 will be making an appearance?

Also, 458001 and 458002 can't be far away now either. Will these need to do the 5000 mile test or just 1000 mile?

The post in the Windsor 10 car thread (in allocations) did point out the newer pair were on Windsors and the original pair of units 31 and 34 were on the loop. This would make sense, to use the well run-in pair on the newly added route.
32 and 36 have always been expected to be later arrivals as they include rebuilt GatEx luggage vehicles.

Last I heard it will be quite some time until we get the next units 532 & 536 will use rebuilt luggage vans which is a substantial job and there are problems with getting the ex Gatwick vehicles to work with units 501 and 502 (ex 8001 & 8002) correctly.

The way things are going, two new units in service every 2 and a half months, it will take at least another 40 months for them to enter service, so more than 3 years  . How long does the 1000 miles testing take? Best thing would be to have a few paths to Weymouth and back, get it done within a few days :D (preferably at night so there are fewer problems if they manage to sit down somewhere) :D

Other way round yesterday - 458535 was leading the 2107 Waterloo to Waterloo at Mortlake last night so keeping the well run in pair on the newly added route was short lived (much to my disappointment).

Indeed, I saw it at Barnes on its return to Waterloo.

Having the units swap between the diagrams makes sense. I wonder if they are going to try pairing the units with the others anytime soon. So 458533 with 458531 etc. The PA had broken on both sets when I caught them on Monday. One was stuck displaying and announcing "This train is for London Waterloo. The next station is Datchet", the other had the next station as Chertsey. Both were playing that announcement roughly every 30 seconds, and the PA was rather loud so it quickly got very annoying.

Whichever units were on the Weybridge/loop diagram have failed judging by SWT's short formations info.

The 458/5's have been doing services to Windsor and Eaton Riverside as I saw one coming into this station back on the 16th May at about 10pm.

Has there been another delivery? I saw a /5 stabled in Wimbledon park depot as well as a couple of barrier wagons (in the sidings visible from the district line)

I'm currently on 458533 (2107 Waterloo via Brentford-Hounslow-Richmond) and it doesn't seem right. There's this almost constant vibration from fans coming from underneath one of the DMSO coaches, bit like some Northern Line trains.
The DVA isn't good either, it is one of the circular services and it is announcing it as going to London Waterloo throughout rather than starting with Hounslow as the destination. And the announcements don't seem well put together:
"This is Putney......... This train is for London Waterloooo......... The next station is Barnes"
"This train is for London Waterloooo......... The next station is Barnes"
"This train is now approaching Barnes" when it has only just left the previous station.

I actually wish I didn't waste 15 minutes for it :(

The PA is in exactly the same format as with the 458/0s, it just uses a different voice. Presumably like the 458/0s it plays announcements based on wheel rotations rather than GPS, which means if the train suffer any wheelslip the announcements can get out of sync.

I noticed from a youtube video that the PA on the 458/5 played the recording for 'London Waterloo' that forms part of 'London Waterloo..only' on other units, but as a destination when several other stops were to come. It sounded a bit incongruous...

That is what I think too, same with Windsor & Eton Riverside, doesn't sound "right" at all :|. Bit weird they didn't standardise on the announcement set used on the 444/450/455. The worst early announcement was the one for Vauxhall, we were still on the pointwork at Waterloo when it played.

Meanwhile it was hanging on for dear life, one of the doors were locked out due to a fault :D

If that's a 'the next station is' I've no objection, lots of TOCs announce that shortly after departing the previous station (or while still at the previous station for LUL) but if it's 'we are now approaching' - that's bad, it forces people out of their seats, collecting luggage etc, potentially several minutes too early.

The "we are now approaching" wasn't too bad in the end, only Vauxhall where it was far too early.

I also noticed there were no coach numbers inside the train, something minor though :P

Internal coach numbers can be useful- eg if you complain about faulty heating/aircon/PA/etc to Greater Anglia they ask for the (TOPS) coach number as it helps with getting the problem fixed sooner.

One of the units must be out of service, yet again. The 0725 from Wandsworth Town to Waterloo was cancelled yesterday and is running in 5 car formation (rather than 10) this morning.

It's not really about miles though,it's more about other things like how the door and computer system work.Plus when faults do come up they have to be rectified and start again.

Yeah c2c do this as well, I assumed it was fairly standard practice these days. The 450 numbers are pretty tiny but at least they're there. Incidentally I had the same problem with a 180, so perhaps it's an Alstom thing?
