Pretty sure something happened to these two units this morning (0815 Hounslow?) as the were shunting from Clap Jn Plat 5 to clapped out yard in the rush hour.I was on 458530 and 458531,my fourth consecutive running turn involving working this new class of units.458504 and 458510 were also out and about.

458531 is unique I think as it is made up out of four units.

Oh yeah,there is a 458/0 coupled up to a 47 and barrier wagons at Wimbledon near the LUL line.Don't know the number though.

0810 Waterloo to Waterloo failed at Clapham Junction on the outward. This is also the first direct service of the day from stations between Barnes Bridge and Isleworth, to stations between Whitton and Mortlake (Hounslow has an 0648 which starts there after arriving empty from Clapham Yard).

For its next working from Waterloo at 0945, they waited for the arrival of the 0815 you mentioned (0943 PTT, 0941 WTT, actual 0938! ), which is a 455 pair and ECS to Clapham Yard afterwards. The pair was split and the 0945 took one of those. It only departed 4 late, with the Journeycheck input saying that it would leave 7-8 late.

I've now worked 13 examples of these unit's adding 458510 to my list which worked with 458504 but we had problems.Starting at Virginia Water with the guard getting locked out of the train.Then a genuine call for aid at Egham,had had one at Putney the day before (on 531 with 530)which I put down to computer error (had to do a TMS reset after checking the toilet.(Handle not pulled but Driver Aware lit). Had it once before on a 458/0.Got to Chiswick,couldn't get interlock and door inoperable.Door locked OOU.Managed to get it going again.All this happened on 510 (with 504)

Generally they are not too bad.For the sixth consecutive turn I was on them again on 511 with 503 (today) and the worst problem was the announcements playing up at Syon Lane/Isleworth? Had to modify station start and it was fine.So over six days the only real problem was yesterday and we only lost a few minutes of which we managed to make up.

I have now worked 14 different units with 511 today being a new one.

I think they need it,the newer units are playing up more than the older units,or so it seems.

Yes,door problems.510 had the door fault (@ Chiswick) yesterday and 511 today also had a door locked out for some reason unknown to me.

The 458/5's will eventually within the next 2 - 3 years be running the services on the Waterloo - Reading route and as 61654 HTAFC has pointed out, I don't think that there is many drivers that have the route knowledge to Weymouth other than perhaps Juniper Driver who I think has previously driven class 442's, but I presume that was on the route to Portsmouth?

Surely testing them in the areas they will actually be operating is the best possible test. No point hammering down to Weymouth and back at full speed when that's not what they're going to be doing day to day.

Also asdo test beacons are undergoing replacement south of Surbiton (excluding Woking and Weybridge) so can't test all systems on the main.

Only sign to Poole now but used to sign to Weymouth till 2004.Also used to sign Guildford to Pompey till 2007.They have a way of doing this though.Im not sure whch drivers they use but there must be some trained up to work them from Bournemouth to Weymouth although not at my depot.Perhaps Wimbledon drivers but im not really sure.Will have to ask about.I drove 442's mainly down to Weymouth although I did do the odd trip down to Portsmouth esp in the early days of 442's down there.

Funny,I thought it had moved slightly.

I thought Bournemouth would have seen the 459's though.Weren't they testing between Bournemouth and Weymouth?

458s have been through Bournemouth at least as late as October 2013 as the clip shows them around the Poole area. One unit shown is a 458/5 so maybe they're doing some testing of them on the SWML (x number of miles fault free running perhaps?)

On the tour.A driver at my depot has been asked to work the train from Woking to Poole and back via East Putney so I won't get the gig.Although in fairness he worked on them more regularly over the past ten years than I have so he probably deserves it.

Not up to me but I'd put 8015 on it if I had a choice and it was fixed. (It needs a run out)

More door trouble @ Vauxhall and Wandsworth town on 458510.Although after the trouble @ Wandsworth Town (losing 2 mins) the unit was fine.I think it was the same door as last week as I saw remainders of the door not to be used sticker which was put on it at that time and it was the 4th/2nd coach depending on where I was driving from.

Pretty sure I saw 458535 in the yard and checking by WWTownEnth's list it is around.

I wouldn't worry too much in the yard,it's more of a problem in service.

On a side note I've had more door trouble in the last three 459 turns than I have had in eight years of working 458/0's.
