I think I sense a hint sarcasm in 455driver's post![]()
When the 3rd rail lines get converted to overhead, how much work is involved in converting the 485's to overhead?
What's the cost of the 485's compared with a new build of class 450s?

I've read somewhere that the 450s have got all the wiring needed for overhead in place and would presumably just need a transformer bolted onto the underside, a pantograph bolted into the pantograph well (both connected to the wiring), possibly a new panel in the cab and a software update.
Looks like another pair of /5s are out to test tomorrow:

Have any units other than 531 and 534 even started the necessary fault free running yet, let alone completed it?
Same will apply with 8502 and 8501 and 8532 and 8536.
Thanks. I Imagine it will be a very expensive job if they go for it, doesn't look easy to extend under the bridge at the London end and obviously the level crossing at the other end.
That was the plan from what I had heard, but the local council were having none of it.

Shame the local council don't have a say in what crossings are closed. Consulted, yes, questioned, yes. But they don't own the crossing or the land. Only the roads either side...
I believe that unit 3 onwards requires only 1000 miles fault-free running.
The last door on the rear carriage is getting fussy as to when it opens. Twice now at CJ it has remained locked triggering a mad scramble to the other end of the coach even though it's been well within the platform length.

Both doors on the rear carriage (nearest the barriers) refused to open at Waterloo on Friday evening, so there's something that needs fixing!
"17:23 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo due 18:19
Will be formed of 4 coaches instead of 10."
Did it fail sometime today?

A problem with the doors today on the 458/5.

That's because the driver keyed off too quickly...
Looking at realtimetrains it looks like more tests are planned this week between Staines -Windsor/Reading.
I noticed today that the piercingly loud door chimes aren't present on the ex-gatwick 458/5s hopefully it will be the same for the ex SWT ones.
To my knowledge the ex 458/0s will retain their current hustle alarms.
I haven't actually been on a journey yet where the PIS has been working. What's the problem with it?
Also today, the guard did not make an announcement about the short platform at Feltham, resulting in much panic in the rear two coaches, and also had the locked the inter-unit gangway. Hmmm - not impressive.
