Ive been very lucky last week as all the trains I went on from East Croydon - Victoria and back were 442s! I had a weekly 1st class ticket so I enjoyed the better seats :) Does anyone know how long Southern will keep these units running on that route?

They are now a permanent fixture on Brighton express workings.

Yes indeed they are, which makes them a complete pain during commutes :)

Surely that's only one unit that's failed then? Isn't that all one diagram?

...Are they short of spare stock or something? Do they have nothing to cover?

Probably some stock is faulty and there isnt any other stock avaliable to cover it, so they would just run the service short-formed, better than cancelling a service.

It was all one diagram. More this morning (Thursday):

Formed of 5 coaches instead of 10
0430 Victoria to Gatwick
0520 Gatwick to Victoria
0615 Victoria to Brighton
06:56 Brighton to London Victoria service will start from Gatwick Airport. This train will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 10.

All but the 06:56 are part of the same diagram. Upon arrival at Brighton, the 0615 works the 0730 return.

What's the number of seats in each coach now following refurbishment by Southern?

Don't know if anyone is interested but another short formation:

15:06 London Victoria to Brighton due 15:57
This train will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 10.

13:49 Brighton to London Victoria due 14:40
This train will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 10.

I'm guessing 377.

I find the 442 seats much more comfortable than 460s but have heard the drivers find the driving seats very uncomfortable but at least it keeps them awake.

Really? I wonder if they've changed them during the recent refurb as I found 442 cabs a hell of a lot more comfortable than the more modern kit we've got now (although I don't miss the draughts and leaks!).
