Either scrap them, or retraction them and put them on Brighton - Southampton semi fasts. Got to be better than a 313 and at least they have toilets...

313s to Southampton do not happen in the normal course. They are cleared but the normal stock on the route is four car 377/x.

Northern are taking over Blackpool, Barrow and Windermere services from TPE so presumably the 185s are to cover some of those services in the interim.

Actually regarding the 325s, forget the dual-voltage just wait a while longer until the GWML is wired, then employ them as they are on Paddington- Reading shuttles, loads & loads of standing room available

I would have thought, that the Class 325's would be better to be used on the Gatwick Express services, as they would have plenty of luggage space...

It works for mail, no technical reason it couldn't work for groceries.

with very few exceptions, groceries are transported by road ...... hence the huge distribution centres next to motorways and other major roads, with HGVs clogging up my commute every day!

Actually quite a lot does go by rail, but it's all intermodal between distribution centres. Probably not much to be gained by moving away from the present containers.

Paint them up as Pullmans and reintroduce the Brighton and Bournemouth Belles and Golden Arrow. Run one of them in multiple with the real 5-BEL when that's finished.

Next time northern complain that they don't have enough carriages and it's all the dft's fault give them the 442's. They won't actually be able to use them but at least the dft can come back and say 'you wanted more carriages and we gave you some and you complained, so you ain't getting anymore!'

And they have got tables, 2+2 seating, air conditioning and end power doors. They could be parked in unused platforms and powered by a fairground generator as comfortable waiting rooms.

Southampton Docks boat train? Would need a class 33/1 or similar for last mile. I think I might be half serious. Over 400 cruise ships docked at Southampton last year. A posh Pullman might work.

Eight or ten car 'Wessex Pullman', on regular Soton - Brighton/Bomo/Weymouth day trips. 73/9 on one end, job done!
