I make it 34 including 43311/315 and 41002.
Indeed, but part of that is down to shortening the retained GWR and ScotRail sets from eight to five or four car. Add in power cars going to Colas and RailAdventure with no trailers and it becomes more understandable.Surprisingly few, given how quickly the ROSCOs dispatched large numbers of Mk3s to the scrapyards.
Dark sunglasses pal. Works a treat!Reported on WNXX that 43315 has already been broken up, hopefully @trainswitheddy won't read this especially as they used a blunt saw for most of the cutting work![]()

Can I just ask to clarify if 43091 has simply been dropped off at the site, or literally accidentally dropped from a crane there like 70 012 was? Also reported that 43091 has been dropped at a small railway site at Henstridge

Reminds. Was 41002 cut before 43198 was delivered ?I make it 34 including 43311/315 and 41002.
41002 (43001) was cut in 1990 so all 199 power cars did exist at the same time.Reminds. Was 41002 cut before 43198 was delivered ?
in other words were there ever 198 power cars in total ?
43001 was stored in Derby, I think either within the Loco Works or on the RTC. There was no HST interest group, let alone preservation, back then - 125 Group wasn’t formed until 1994.Thanks @43096 and @Ashley Hill - I didn't realise prototype 43001 (41002) lasted until 1990. Where was it stored? So I suppose the preservation movement had no interest in it, or access to it; and the NRM already had 43000 (41001) safely stored away.

What a scalp; nice oneAt Derby in 1987:

Indeed. I tolerated them purely for the noise of the Valenta and for covering miles (in the days when service 125mph was the norm). Many I knew in the 1980s hated them. There was no HST interest group, let alone preservation, back then
I have found a miniature/narrow gauge type railway in the area called the Gartell Light Railway - https://maps.app.goo.gl/DiNspcz5uTiqz7Ea6Definitely not a 70012 job, had a quick look last night and I couldn't find railway and Henstridge mentioned together, there is an airfield there so maybe the first Class 43 glider is on the drawing board
It is at Henstridge airfield, private collection near AJN steel apparentlyI have found a miniature/narrow gauge type railway in the area called the Gartell Light Railway - https://maps.app.goo.gl/DiNspcz5uTiqz7Ea6
Maybe they are taking it for display purposes........or re-gauging the power car![]()

That would certainly make more sense in terms of space but ruins my dream of getting HST haulage on some new trackIt is at Henstridge airfield, private collection near AJN steel apparently
Unmistakably an impact profile and height you'd expect from the nose of another power car, so not surprising it's happened to more than one!Although both 43311 and 43315 have had some form of impact to the lower gangway area, the giveaway from this photo (https://www.flickr.com/photos/terryglos/54645673253/) as to which is which is the fading of the red at the back of the power car.
Similarly, one day we'll all be going misty eyed as the last few 66s rumble on, on their last legs!Indeed. I tolerated them purely for the noise of the Valenta and for covering miles (in the days when service 125mph was the norm). Many I knew in the 1980s hated them.

Has 314 been cut up yet? Or still operational?
Speak for yourself, I will quite happily gas axe them...Similarly, one day we'll all be going misty eyed as the last few 66s rumble on, on their last legs!
That's my point really, that is probably what the enthusiasts would have said about the HSTs when they were everywhere in the 80s replacing Deltics, Peaks and Hoovers!Speak for yourself, I will quite happily gas axe them...
No "probably", they did.. I remember reading that when 46035 went Mainline in the mid 1990s, at least one enthusiast had broken his "No HST travel" rule to get there. Times have definitely changed! That's my point really, that is probably what the enthusiasts would have said about the HSTs when they were everywhere in the 80s replacing Deltics, Peaks and Hoovers!
Some of is still take that view of HSTs.That's my point really, that is probably what the enthusiasts would have said about the HSTs when they were everywhere in the 80s replacing Deltics, Peaks and Hoovers!
Another one reported on WNXX this evening, 43191 seen yesterday on the A14 en route from Mid Norfolk Railway to EMR Kingsbury
Now for sale (minus engine) on Facebook marketplace for potential glamping use (!)It is at Henstridge airfield, private collection near AJN steel apparently
