I know exactly how you feel - 027 and 160 were two of my favourite GW Power Cars. Both of which are now sadly due to dock in Baltimore next week then onwards to Mexico. I had a small personal connection with 160 and one of its previous names, but will leave it at that after seeing how frustratingly politicised things seem to have become having watched a blow up over on Facebook.

Another one I do mourn the loss of - though at least it was cut up over here, was 161. It was always a good strong power car and had a complete re-wire before the end. Why it ended up being stored then used as a spares donor I don’t know, it was one of GW’s better cars!

A few others I always liked were 004, 041, 140 and 194. 194 is off to Mexico, 004 will probably follow suit soon enough, 041 was scrapped and we know what happened to 140. Terribly sad.

I think the implication is that the ex-GWR power cars mentioned will be prepared for export by Romic

Thank-you 156444. I wasn't sure what was implied - thought it could have been hinting at a trip to Newport or Beeston.

Do HST power cars have a number of simple parts that are easy to replace where needed? If not I doubt ones used by charters (Midland Pullman) and departmental trains will stay in service for a long time, as they'd still be getting fairly intensive use.

EMR's "farewell HST" video - link below - includes comments from employees who worked on them and in them.
One electrician described the HSTs as "old-school" because, unlike modern diagnosis (via laptop) and module swap-outs, the HST's parts needing fault-finding and fixing in-situ inside the vehicle.
EMR's employees described HST power cars as each having their own character and - a surprise to me - many variations in "driveability".

Because that is what the customer has contracted them to do! They took the HST set from the SVR to Burton (the ex-GWR set is not in good condition mechanically) and then went back to Kings Norton light engines as 0G87.

Erm I did (see post 878)...assumed to be preparation for export by Romic (as that's what happened to the recent ones which went to Burton).

I think a few comments have been at cross purposes, with some referring to the FGW power cars that were moved, and some to the Railadventure power cars that were moving them.

Railadventure power cars are fairly common visitors to Burton, being hired as traction on various stock moves. Apart from providing traction I don't think they have any other connection to the Romic program

The 5D22 is seen here, with the Railadventure power cars being used to drag the rest of the formation as per comment above (#884) by trainswitheddy:

43468 / 43480 didn't stay at Burton but returned light engine to Kings Norton, with their escapades recorded by ExRes in the Railadventure thread

This was another Railadventure move from Burton at the end of March (dragging 4 power cars to the Mid-Norfolk Railway)

Whilst I sympathise profusely with the sentiment that it is sad to see these fine machines leaving the UK rail network (I appreciate that is a widespread but by no means universal view!), surely their export for a new life overseas is something to be celebrated? Realistically their UK careers are over, with the exception of the few fortunate enough to have found departmental use with NR and those being utilised as rather bonkers freight locos.

None of those being exported would have been likely to have worked again on the mainline, and indeed the preservation scene seems to have found its level so survival on heritage lines was probably just as remote a possibility. I’d much rather that they were still running frontline intercity services over here in Blighty, but of course they aren’t and their withdrawal was hardly premature. I’m pleased that someone else has recognised their potential, however long that may last - let’s celebrate these veterans living on, even if it is well beyond the scope of a spotting daytrip! :)

Genuinely had high hopes that this set would remain in pres with the SVR. ROMIC are clearly not in the business to be charitable though and if they have a buyer then that is more important to them than a few of us enjoying 25mph running on a pres line :D

I don’t know at the moment but I’d say it’s likely it will get at least another run or two this year. Just depends on what First Group’s plans are for the set, or whether Romic will make them an offer they can’t refuse again.
