How do the doors over the couplers work. I've seen many 395's split at Ashford and the leading unit departs with the trailing coupler on view and the doors closing over it at various distances down the platform. Is it automatic (speed related) or driver controlled.

Thanks in advance.

I believe the Pendolino ones are also driver operated. They have a habit of getting stuck though.

I was on a Pendo drag a couple of years ago and watched the uncoupling at Crewe. The coupler retracted and the cover got half way down and stopped! I think a fitter ended up going into front of the unit to give a helping hand to get it shut.
