Class 395 Missing a Coach (?)

Often when I pass the Ashford Hitachi depot, there's a Class 395 but one of its front coaches has been removed and the gangway has been covered up. What is going on here?

Also, when I was little, I remember some Class 395s having only 4 coaches. Was this a figment of my imagination?

That 395 at the Ashford depot was involved in a collision at a level crossing (I believe it was with a van by Rainham?), and has been sat there for a while. 395 008 I believe. Although when I passed on Friday I’m not sure I saw it there any more.
